Disney transforms the Haunted Mansion each year into a "Nightmare Before X-mas" type thing correct? Anybody have the dates (or some close time frame) as to when Disney plans on closing the ride to do that this year?

No. None of us are sure yet. This year is the original Haunted Mansion's 40th anniversary, and we are not sure if there will be a Haunted Mansion Holiday at all this year, or if so, will the overlay be installed later than usual to allow time to celebrate the 40th anniversary..... we just don't know. We have only speculated on different possible scenarios. We are hoping a nice Cast Member will tip us off if they find something out soon! If there were no 40th anniversary events taking place this year (one of them being on 9-9-09), then the typical schedule would be that the Haunted Mansion would shut down in early September, for at least 2 weeks, possibly 2-1/2 weeks, to install the overlay, and then reopen as the Haunted Mansion Holiday on the last Friday of September, more than likely, just in time for the official Halloweentime season at Disneyland to begin. But because of the anniversary, that schedule could be delayed a bit, or the overlay may be skipped entirely until Fall 2010. There is just no way of knowing yet. On the one hand, it seems it could be a little hectic if they try to showcase the 40th anniversary events and then rush to get the holiday overlay up in time for Halloweentime season. But Haunted Mansion Holiday is very popular, so we wonder if they might just put it up later than they normally do, perhaps in time for Halloween on Oct. 31.

Well, since I'm heading out there in early Sept. for the Half Marathon, I'm hoping they either delay it or skip this year since it sounds like the time they normally do it would be the time I'm out there.

Thanks for the info.:thumbsup2

The Haunted Mansion will be open for the Marathon weekend in early September 2009!

I think the Marathon occurs before the HM anniversary event on 9-9-09, so you'd definitely get to ride it. HM has to stay open until at least 9-9-09. It's after the 9th that we are uncertain as to what will happen and whether or not it will close for the holiday overlay process, or if they will skip 2009 entirely and bring Haunted Mansion Holiday back in 2010. If there were no anniversary events this year, it is possible that the HM would have been closed on the 9th for the overlay.

We are going in November (around Thanksgiving) I hope it will be open!! It's one of my favorite rides...(sniff, sniff)

My opinion (take it for what it's worth ;) ) is that no matter what Disney decides to do HM or HMH for the end of the year, that no matter what they will have the ride operating before Thanksgiving. With the start of the Holiday season right near there, I am sure everything will be in place by then to give the full holiday experience as long as they can!

Yep. I agree. No matter what form the Haunted Mansion takes later this year - original or holiday overlay - it will undoubtedly be up and running by the official start of the holiday season, which will be November 20th. And unless Disney has to do some other sort of maintenance on HM, there wouldn't be any reason to close it down during the Halloween-Christmas seasons at all UNLESS they are doing the holiday overlay - especially if they are promoting the 40th anniversary this year. So it is just a matter of whether or not they will do the overlay at all in '09, and if so, when exactly will they squeeze it in, and will it be in time for Halloweentime season, or in time for the Halloween holiday.

Yes, the marathon weekend is Sept. 4-6.
