I'm 100% positive I have rosacea without even seeing a dermatologist because I have every single syptom of it plus my grandmother and all of my aunts have it. I have been taking two fish oil capsules a day and putting jojoba oil on my face several times a day. While each of these things have helped a lot I find that when my seasonal allergies are worse my face starts to itch like crazy! It is taking all of my willpower right now not to itch it! GRRR!!!!! I'm going to order some Vanicream sunscreen in a few weeks because even so called hypoallergetic brands burn my skin. I can't afford to go to a doctor for a few months and I just need to vent about it. *sighs*

I have it.I use a daily prescription cream to help with the symptoms. It is called finacea. It has stopped all the painful pimple type breakouts I used to get on my nose area but I still get redness.I have to be very careful what products I use and I like Eucerine's line called redness relief. They have a face wash and night moisturizer cream that I use for daytime too.I have tried very expensive creams and things but it used to still bother me after awhile. The eucerine has never bothered me.I also like Aveeno's face wash for redness too-I use it in the winter because it is a little gentler and less drying and then I used the Eucerine in summer months.I have to be very careful on sunscreen-most bother me.I actually just use Bare escentuals mineral foundation with sunscreen in it now.Even when I am in Disney I just make sure to re apply after a few hours and I don't get burned.I can't use any anti aging type products-they irritate me.Go to a dermatologists when you are able to they can at least help with the daily pain symptoms.I know they have a pill that you can take too-I didn't want to have to take more pills so I like the topical cream.

I don't have insurance so I have to wait. One thing I know is that there is no way I'm going to take antibiotics. I've had sinus issues in the past and they kept pushing them on me instead of dealing with the underling issue which was most likely rosacea. It can cause major sinus issues in some people.

Would an allergy med help with the itching like Benadryl or something?

Benadryl makes me pass out!LOL

LOL me too.

DS10 takes the target brand of Claritin, maybe something like that would work. It's supposed to be non-drowsy.

Yeah, I should something non-drowsy. This year all of the darn trees are blooming at the same time! *shakes fist at them*

have you tried Zyrtec? I have a script topical called metrogel for the rosacea. i cannot go in sun at all, that is the worst for it. Derm suggested Cetaphil moisturizer with SPF 50.

I was doing really good until this week with all the trees blooming. The jojoba oil has reduced my dry skin greatly and the fish oil has made my skin less red and more soft. At this point I'm just going to stay inside as much as possible. I used to be able to use Neutrogena sunscreen but about six months ago it started to burn my face. The Vanicream brand seems to work for most people so I am crossing my fingers.

I've had it for years too and never tried the things you mentioned. I will give them a try soon, thanks.

I use Cetaphil skin cleanser for my face. NOT the face cleanser, that makes my face dry and irritated. Go figure. I also have psoriasis and think now it is spreading to my face. Especially along my nose in my eyebrows. It itches and is red and flakey. I have been trying olive oil and it has been helping but is a bit heavy, even though it is a light oil. I can use the Cetaphil facial moisturizer.

My dermatologist gives me elocon cream for my face but doesn't want me to use it much. I put a tiny dab on once a day on the worst spots only. It seems to keep it under control.

I was told when diagnosed to avoid spicey food and too much caffeine. Avoid hot baths and showers and even hot beverages. Anything that dialates you blood vessels can irritate the roseacea and the broken cappilaries are what the redness is from.

Have you tried using cool compresses for the itching? It might help a little for the very worst spots. Some of the heartburn meds also can help control itching like Tagamet and Previcid. I keep the generic on hand and use it. It has helped me. A doctor friend told me about that when I had a reaction to a medication and had rash all over my body. Benedryl is not my friend either.

I use Metrogel as well. It works very well for me. I break our in the typical "butterfly" pattern across my cheeks. My nose gets the worst of it. The gel goes a long way. I don't use it all the time and it usually lasts me 9 months or more.

I wasn't diagnosed by a dermatologist. My Eye Dr actually diagnosed me because I have it on my eyelids. It is the worst when it flares up on my eyes. I can't see or drive or do much of anything.

Have you found your 'trigger foods'? Sometimes making a change in your diet will help to lessen the symptoms.

I hope you find something that helps. :goodvibes

Thanks to everybody for the advice. If any of you haven't tried pure jojoba oil give it a try. It mimics the natural oil in your skin so it doesn't make you break out. It absorbs really well when your face is wet. I try not to get hot or warm water on my face any longer.

I use Metrogel also and a script for Oracea. If I am very consistent with those two things and stay out of the sun, I have very few problems these days.

Stay away from any face products containing alcohol if you have rosacea. I was surprised by how many list it as an ingredient, even cetaphil and others that are supposed to be good for sensitive skin.

I've had rosacea for years..used everything under the sun. I now use Prosacea(a natural mild sulfa lotion) and it's been so much better than any of the prescription drugs.

One thing I have discovered is that I can't use anything with an SPF in it, especially makeup. That starts the itching and drying really bad. Something to consider. Clinique does have one foundation without SPF.
