I think I'm about to give in to the kids pleading and get one of the $180 above ground pools they sell at Academy Sports. The one I'm looking at is 15' x 42" and is made by Intex. This is the Easy Set Pool, with the inflatable ring around the top.

Anybody have any experience with these?

Much maintenance required in keeping the water nice?

Did filling the pool have a big impact on your water bill?

My neighbor had one and it just lasted the one season before it got a hole in it. You have to buy the blanket thing for it to sit on otherwise the landscaper may get to close and hit it with the mower or weed wacker. It took as much work as my bigger pool (mine is 18X52)
I had to replace my regular pool liner and fill it last season and the water bill was only about 20.00 more than normal for the summer. It goes up in the summer anyway with all the watering of the lawn but it didn't go up a crazy amount just for filling the pool.

I had one, a little smaller than that, though. It was good while the kids were small, but very easy to break. It only lasted one season, then some of the cheap plastic poles, feet, etc. broke, and we couldn't get replacements.

On the plus side, it was easy to keep clean with the right chemicals, but since I was spending that kind of effort to balance chemicals, etc. we went ahead and put in an above ground pool.

My mom had one for the boys. She really likes it. She set it up on their patio with sand under it to level it. As far as lasting I can't help you there. She has a neighbor child that came in the yard at night and put holes in it. (He also unhooked her pond and various other things.) She was able to patch it and did so SEVERAL times. (Too bad we couldn't catch this kid:mad: ) She is looking into getting another one this year since they are moving into a new house in two weeks. :Pinkbounc :bounce: The boys would take a towel and wipe down the pool everytime they got in because they thought it was fun to do.:) :sunny:

We had one 2 summers ago when they were just becoming popular. Last year my mom used and this year a friend has it-- it's held up really well!! We used sand underneath for padding and leveling as well as a tarp on top of that. My only complaint was it was a little difficult to keep clean. The grass and such was difficult to get out. I spent more time cleaning the easy set pool than I did cleaning our new 28ft above ground pool last year. Great option though for a nice pool w/o the large pool costs.

We had one last year and everytime one of my kids would lean against a side about a million gallons of water would pour out. Not fun having to fill the pool up everyday:sad2:

We have one. I like it and we didn't notice any significant difference in our water bill. You only have to fill it once a year anyway. We put sand under it. I also bought a hot tub vacuum (connects to your garden hose) for about $20 to keep it clean and found that worked really well. The chemicals are the same as having a small above ground pool. I didn't find that too difficult either. Make sure the set you buy has the ladder and pump. Good luck!
