This really only applies to those people who are also going to be going to Long Beach, LA or anywhere that uses the 405/10/101 fwys...

last year at the same time they closed down the 405 to work on it over the weekend...they named that weekend "Carmaggedon":rotfl2:...anyways, they are doing the same thing again this year...imo, although many of the so cal fwys are busy, 101 and the 91 have to be 2 of the worst ones period with the 405 coming not far behind them...

for that weekend, ALL 405 traffic will be rerouted to the 101 which will double the already existing traffic they typically have...so if you want to go into LA or Hollywood or anything like that on that weekend, I would seriously recommend you go during the week and go to DL on the weekend...frankly for me I will do DL at the busiest time of year over sitting in hours and hours of backed up traffic going nowhere ....

Ugh...we are flying into LA on the 27th...and driving to San Diego...will there be problems? I am not familiar with the area and haven't planned ahead as far as routes yet. Then I was going to drive from San Diego on Sunday morning the 30th to DL...will this be bad?

Thanks for the heads up!

Kelly

Flying into LAX the evening (after 10pm) of the 28th. Alas I'm not all that familiar with the roads, so can someone tell me what it is going to do to our drive/ride to Anaheim?

My understanding is that the affected area will be between the 10 and 101 freeways on the 405. South of LAX (where is where you'll be, Molly) won't be affected.

The following link shows the area that will be closed during this project. This area is north of LAX, and is in the area we call the Sepulveda Pass:

Here's a map showing where the closure is going to be (freeway highlighted in yellow)

We went back and forth to DLR on the Saturday of the first Carmaggedon (from just south of LAX on the 405) and there were no problems at all. Traffic was lighter than normal because people headed the warnings and stayed off the freeways.

There should be no problem getting between DLR and LAX that weekend. My only concern is if people thought it went so well last time, why bother listening to the warnings this time...and drive the freeways anyway.

We are leaving on the 29th, Saturday, driving from DL resort to John Wayne airport.

Sorry for my ignorance, but would we be effected by this? thanks, will leave more time if necessary.

Nope, you are fine. :) If it helps, take a look at the map that Mary Jo posted. You will be able to see where DLR and John Wayne airport are both well south of where the construction will be :thumbsup2

I saw this posted a while back, and asked then if it would affect our plans - we plan on driving from DLR to LA that day (to Farmer's Market, La Brea tar pits, Beverly Hills etc) - someone answered then that it wouldn't be a problem.

But this thread says it will be a problem?

Would the day before be ok??

We'll be arriving Saturday 29th coming from AZ, we usually take the 91, which most likely on a Saturday will be a nightmare anyways......:sad2:

You'll be okay. Look at the map that I posted, and the area you are going to is just north of the Downtown on the map. You won't be driving near the area that will be shut down.
