Anybody getting excited about Christmas already?

I know people see the holidays as a time to see family you don't get to see the rest of the year. Not me, though. My thoughts are that if I'm not important enough for you to see, talk to, email during the rest of the year(besides the times you want something) then you aren't important for me to see on the holidays. My brother and sister in law make such a big deal of seeing each other (at THEIR convenience) over the holidays. Yet, I'm the one spending money I don't have and preparing meals I don't want to so I can keep the peace. I am DETERMINED not to do that this year. I will do for my girls and they can do for their family. I don't want to get together or anything. I want my family here (that's me and my two girls and the animals) and that is all. Now, let's see if I can stick with that.

Fair enough.

"...Only I didn't say "Fudge." I said THE word, the big one, the queen-mother of dirty words, the "F-dash-dash-dash" word!..."

....okay, sooooooo, anybody here watch The Christmas Story ["...you'll shoot yer eye out, kid..."] like I do EVERY CHRISTMAS EVE...I watch it at least 4 or 5 times in a row as I sit alone on my family room floor wrapping all the Christmas gifts....

One of our favorite Christmas movies!
"You'll shoot your eye out!"

"...Only I didn't say "Fudge." I said THE word, the big one, the queen-mother of dirty words, the "F-dash-dash-dash" word!..."

The movie needs its own message board! "Are you happy wearing that? Tell the kid to take it off. TAKE IT OFF!"

I've been shopping for weeks and was jumping up and down with excitement when I found the Toys R Us Big Toy Book in my mailbox today.

I love Christmas!

I'm so glad I found you guys! :)

I have been buying Bethlehem Lights stuff on QVC since July. I already had a lot of their stuff but really added to my collection starting in July.

I have a WDW trip planned for Nov. 11th-14th. When I get home I will be in Christmas decorating mode!

I will have all my Bethlehem stuff to unpack. I even got a new tree for my bedroom, which will be for all the Disney ornaments. I'm hoping to come home with a bunch more ornaments after the Nov. trip.

I will probably spend a small fortune on batteries for all the Bethlehem Lights items but to not have to deal with looking at cords....PRICELESS!:rotfl:

Merry Christmas everyone!!!:goodvibes

Are the Bethlehem Lights just wreaths? I want some good outdoor decorations - so tired of the wire ones that look like nothing during the day and are questionable as to what they are when lit up at night! :headache:
Where does one find Christmas decorations for outside that will last, look like what they are supposed to be whether it's night or day (Santa, snowman, etc.) and don't cost a small fortune? :santa:

I absolutely LOVE QVC at this time of year! All of the Christmas-themed shows, In the Kitchen With David, Valerie Parr Hill (:worship:) ... I am in Christmas Heaven. It makes me want to decorate and bake like a fiend. I seem to want everything shown. In my head, I've spent thousands! :santa:

EllenFrasier, Just go to QVC's web site and type in "Bethlehem Lights". They do way more than just wreaths! They have a ton of stuff for both indoors & out. I love the ones on timers and different lighting modes.

kimmar067 asked: ...what are Bethlehem lights?

That is the name of a company that makes lighted decorations. They make other seasonal decorating items but their Christmas/winter holiday stuff are their most popular products.

Just go to QVC's site and check them out! :thumbsup2

I am sooooo excited! I am listening to Christmas music now!! I also changed my DIS theme to "Happy Holidays" already!

I am crazy and I love it!:santa::santa:

I'm very much looking forward to the holidays this year, but I have a strict rule that I enforce with an iron fist.

Thou shalt not celebrate Christmas until the day after Thanksgiving.

So, no music and no decorations until after T-day. I'll listen to my Christmas cd in the car on the way home from T-day dinner at my SIL's house, and when I get home I bring up all the Christmas boxes from the basement. Then if there are Black Friday deals I want I'll get up early that Friday and shop, then come home and decorate (if I'm not shoping on BF then I'll just sleep in late and start decorating).

The one exception is outdoor Christmas lights, if there is a warm day in November I'll send my DH out to put the lights up while the weather is good. But we don't turn them on until the Friday after T-day.

My other rule is that Christmas has to be packed up on New Years day.

To me, keeping Christmas confined to the period between T-day and New Years helps keep Christmas special. If 5 weeks becomes 8 weeks (or more) then, to me at least, it loses something.

I used to feel that way, but I love the way my house looks when decorated for the holidays. It's a joy to come home! :goodvibes

As much as I love the Christmas season, I would never participate in Black Friday! :scared1:

Honestly, if you're organized and go about it the right way, and with the right attitude, it's a lot of fun! I meet a lot of really nice people waiting in line for the stores to open. The key is to know what you want, prioritize your shoping lists, and go with the attitude of "if I get the things I want, great! but if not, oh well".

I'm usually home on BF by 7 AM, I"ll make some cinnamon rolls for breakfast, which I"ll eat whle gloating over my "deals". Then I'll take a nap (really just pass out from the sugar overload from the rolls) and then spend the day having fun listing to Christmas music and decorating. It makes for a really nice day!
