Anybody getting excited about Christmas already?

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Christmas!!!! I have already put my tree up 2 days ago although not decorated yet because the decorations I bought to go on it in January are hiding somewhere and I can't find them! :rotfl2: I felt I needed to get a jumpstart on decorating this year because the family is coming to my house for Christmas and we will be gone for two weeks at Thanksgiving for Disney World/Cruise!! :cool1: Plus, with helping my DS apply to colleges, I'm a little stressed right now so instead of stressing out over getting the decorating done, I'm doing it now.

I love hearing about everyone's Christmas traditions. My DS's are 13 and 17 and we usually have a special ornament on the tree that opens like a box and I will sneak and put something in it (coins, paper money, candy, etc) each day leading up to Christmas. They love to open their ornament every day and see what surprise they find. We also all wear matching pajamas every year (yes, at their age, they still like it).

I've been working on my Christmas playlist...... :santa: There are certain songs I only want to hear performed by certain singers. White Christmas- Bing
God Rest ye Merry Gentlemen- Barenaked Ladies Frosty the snowman- Jimmy Durante Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer- Burl Ives and the list goes on and on!

I am, I am!:goodvibes

We bake cookies as a familiy and give them to neighbors. From scratch-pb cookies, sugar cookies, oatmeal raisin, chocolate chip, also a couple of fudges and mini cheesecakes.

We make paper rings and popcorn rings for our tree, put out reindeer food and cookies for Santa.

There are Secret Santa and Christmas parties, special church services and activities, the Christmas music. Christmas shows on tv such as Rudolph, Frosty, etc.

The advent calendar with special treats, Christmas dinner and the night DH and I wrap presents-drinking wine and eating appetizers listening to Christmas music.

It is my FAVE holiday!

I'm the same way.:goodvibes My favorite Jingle Bells is by Sammy Davis Jr. and The Christmas Song must be by Mel Torme'. I have a Rat Pack Christmas cd that I love. I have one for each vehicle and the house.:santa:

The holiday season starts right after Halloween because I love Thanksgiving. I always watch Holiday Inn and Home Alone on Thanksgiving day while I'm fixing dinner and reading through all of the black friday ads. Of course, they have to be worked around the football games.;)

:) I am trying to keep myself under control. :goodvibes I listen to Christmas music on my computer, but have not started listening to it in the car. I have not put any Christmas decorations up, but I do get excited when I see them in the stores. I baked cookies with my son today, but they were only chocolate chip - no Christmas cookies yet.
What are some special things you do with your kids if they are older? I have read about some Elf thing, but my kids are too old for that. The youngest two are 11 years old, then I have a teenage boy 17 and two grown children 20 and 22 living at home. I want to do some things that are special with them, but have no ideas as to what to do? :confused3
We do decorate a tree together, they help their Dad put up the outside decorations, we make Christmas cookies together, and there is the annual "boys only" shopping trip and "girls only" shopping trip.
What are some Christmas traditions that you have in your family that carry forth for older kids/adults?
Thanks! :santa:

Great thread! Any thread relating to Christmas is fine with me! :santa:

Well, we'll be leaving for WDW the day after Thanksgiving (!), so the annual tradition of putting up our tree on Black Friday will have to wait.

Of course, we want to start watching the Christmas movies now, but we have to wait (I did "cheat" last week and watched "A Very Brady Christmas". But it was an old, poor quality VHS tape, taped in 1992, so it doesn't really count). We'll finish watching our horror movies on Sunday (Halloween) and on November 1st, we'll start with our Thanksgiving-themed movies (I just bought "Scent of a Woman" today to start things off).

We'll be off by a week because of Disney, but when we return we'll start watching the Christmas movies. The kids and I have been starting off with "Elf" followed by "The House Without a Christmas Tree" (Found that a few years ago for $5.00 in the Walmart bargain DVD bin). Of course, "A Charlie Brown Christmas" is played on an "as needed" basis.

We listen to a lot of Christmas music. Lots of "old school" stuff from Christmas TV specials and movies. Of course, Bing is King in our house.

We bake lots of cookies. This year, we're going to try our hand at candy-making, too. DD has been talking about Peppermint Bark and anything with chocolate works for the rest of us.

We're excited to get a stocking for our Siberian Husky puppy ... Who isn't really puppy-sized anymore.

Can't wait! :santa:

....okay, sooooooo, anybody here watch The Christmas Story ["...you'll shoot yer eye out, kid..."] like I do EVERY CHRISTMAS EVE...I watch it at least 4 or 5 times in a row as I sit alone on my family room floor wrapping all the Christmas gifts....

"FRA-GEE-LAY. Hey! It's Italian!"
"I think that says 'fragile', honey."

:thumbsup2 for sitting alone on the family room floor wrapping gifts while watching A Christmas Story every Christmas Eve! I do, too!

how abt christmas with the cranks or elf.

While I prefer the novel Skipping Christmas so much better, I really like the film version of Christmas with the Kranks.

I can watch Elf over and over again. :happytv:
