Great - thanks!!!

DD is in 4th grade and each year they do a "state fair". Each 4th grader is assigned a specific state and they prepare a report and a poster display. The kids also like to have something, usually to eat, that's associated with the state.

She's learned that the state drink is milk so that's easy to supply. Is there any snack or treat you could suggest that we could make and serve?

Also, any tidbits of info you think would be interesting would be great too.
:D

Let's see...

ND is a huge agricultural state and the fair reflects that - cattle, wheat and sunflowers (Dakota Kid Sunflower seeds!) are big crops. The also produce a lot of durum wheat that is made into pasta - hence a huge pasta festival.

Many Norwiegan influences and lots of native treats are popular.

At the state fair, the big entertainment are tractor pulls and the Combine Crunch - a demolition derby with old farm combines.

They take a lot of pride in the cooking/baking contests at the fair -lots of traditional farm fare and comfort food.

There is a large billboard when you enter ND from Montana that reads "Welcome to ND - Mountain removal project complete" and when you leave it reads "Stay in ND - Custer was healthy when he left".

I'll keep thinking at work and send anymore thoughts later!
Good luck!
Jill

Thought of a few more North Dakota tidbits -

-The geographical center of north America is located in North Dakota.

-Its the Peace Garden State, named after the large Peace Garden (duh...)

Anyway, I hope some of this helps. Again, the state fair there is a huge agriculture event. Folks are more excited about the cattle than the rides and blue ribbon for homemade jam is better than winning a stuffed animal!

Welcome to North Dakota, set your clock back 20 years!:p

North Dakota is also home to what I believe is the most expensive hockey rink to be built in the US (at a cost of nearly $100 million dollars)

Ya think I would know that one!;)
