I've gate checked a stroller many of times. But we've never had a travel system (stroller and car seat) before...and I'm wondering if I'm going to have to check the car seat with my luggage or not. Anyone with experience?
We're flying Delta.

Thanks for any help

If your infant has his/her own seat, you will have to take that on the plane. If you are holding infant in lap, I wouldn't think that you need that car seat. Also, if the car seat is going on board it must be FAA certified. Look at the base of the seat for the approval

Thanks for your help.

We're not purchasing a ticket. But we want the car seat because we're renting a car later in the trip. I know that you can rent them...but we want ours.

I've gate-checked a carseat many times, after DS got too big to use one on the plane.

You should not leave them attached, because that is inviting getting the seat separated and lost if the latch comes undone. Get some sort of cover for the carseat, such as a heavy plastic bag, so that the upholstery will stay clean, and dry in case of rain. Also use something to secure the folded stroller shut; the latch isn't good enough. You will need to get two gate check tags and fill them both out; one for the carseat and one for the stroller.

I would also add that if the car seat gets dislodged from the system, you could have some damage to the locking mechanism on the car seat and/or stroller, which I'm sure you won't want to risk. besides, they need to be able to fold the stroller up for storage.

Have fun!
