Anybody else NOT text???

I guess I will add this: I would rather a person text-message than keep holding that cell phone up to their ear.

A friend of mine was an early user of cell phones (before they became common; he was with IBM at the time). As time went by he used the cell phone more and more until he became like so many people: keeping that thing glued to his head for hours a day.

When I saw him a year ago, at his stepfather’s funeral, he had developed horrible looking skin cancer on the left side of his face next to his ear. He said the doctors did not know if the cell phone caused the cancer or not (he also used to tan a lot as a youth; he is now 55). Anyway, after reading about how cell phones may well be linked to cancers (skin and brain), I have become very concerned for those whom use them so frequently.

So, I guess I would rather young people text if that keeps them from jamming that device next to their head.

I never texted until my DS went to college this fall. It seems to be the easier way to stay in touch with him....outside of a weekly phone call.

I love texting (and I'm 42). I have a dd13, so of course we have unlimited, and it's SO much easier to get a text than to have to log into my voicemail. I also don't like talking on the phone (but I'm very social, and like having conversations in person).

I love texting too. Unless I have some big conversation and discussion to have, I really prefer it to having to actually have to speak to someone. It's nice that you can look at it and respond when you have time, and you can do other things in between. It's also really nice for me, because I generally have a very loud 2 year old around and I don't have to worry about how loud she's being if I'm just texting. Now that we're moved aways from my family, I send pic's and videos all the time to them of the kiddos, and I get them of my nephew. It's a nice way to be able to see some things (almost in real time) that otherwise I'd miss.

I rarely text. I have a BlackBerry and I will send DH a BBM if I am in a meeting at the end of the day to let him know how long I will be. And he will send me one if he is on the commuter van where they are not allowed to talk on the phone. Most of the time though, we just send emails to each other. Much cheaper since we do not have a text plan.

I think many people are way too addicted to texting. And seeing someone do it in their car while driving irritates me! These people believe that sending a text saying "I will see you later" or "you are so cute, I love you" is more important than someones life. My number one peeve.

I don't even have a hand held cell phone. On the rare occasions that I need to contact someone while traveling, I use the OnStar calling in my car. Yes, it is costly compared to a regular cell phone per minute, but I use well under 100 minutes per year, so a regular cell phone wouldn't be economical, either.

No texting.

So I call and leave a message. If you can't be bothered to listen to it, it isn't my problem. :goodvibes

It would be your problem if it's something important you needed someone to know. :goodvibes

Neither DH nor I text at all. It is not included on our plan. We don't even use most of our minutes every month. We have 700 shared minutes for our cellphones and use 200 at the most. We just don't feel the need for the "constant contact".

I do not text. We have actually blocked all texting because one day I got a text from someone and replyed to it asking who it was. Apparently, doing that signed me up for something, and they charged $60 to my phone. We called our phone company, and they took it right off, and since then, we have blocked all texts. I can, however, send pictures.

Exactly my point. People don't need to text every day; but people should at least comfortably know how to send a text message. During major storms home phones don't work and cell service is often not reliable. Knowing how to text is important and could be a lifesaver.

This is true, during Katrina and Gustav cell service was VERY spotty if at all. We usually had no issue with text.

All of my friend's communicate via text. Very rarely do any of us check voice mail. I only check it if it is a number I dont recognize or if my child's school calls.

Ouch! Glad you were able to have the charge removed..:santa:

Our DD is away at college. The phone calls are few and far between -- but the text messages come through loud and clear.

This is exactly why I text these days. I have two teenagers and this is the only way they communicate! It was either get with the program or not be in contact with them! I did get a phone with a keyboard...it makes texting for us old folks so much easier! :rotfl:

I don't text and get frustrated if someone sends me one because I'm charged by my cell phone company for it!!!

I don't do it much, but it can be useful on occasion, and one of those occasions is when I visit WDW parks. The ambient noise in the parks is too loud for me to be able to hold a phone conversation. (DH hates to text, and tends to leave me voice mail when we're separated in the parks -- that's even WORSE! Please honey, TEXT when you want to tell me that you'll meet me at the Lunching Pad when you get off Space Mtn.)

I have a super-cheap Pay-as-you-go prepaid phone, and I can still text at the same price that I can call: $.10 per minute equals $.10 per text. I'm amazed that there are still contract plans that don't allow you to count texts as a certain ratio of minutes.

I don't text. Actually I learned to do it a few weeks ago becasue Dh got a text and didn't know how to answer it. So we both tried to learn.:rotfl: Snet one test and that is it.

Am I the only one in the world who doesn't text? I have a cell phone, that is with me all the time, yet I refuse to pay extra for texting? Seriously though, why do I need to text? If I have to talk to somebody then I call them, and if they are not available I leave a message on voice mail:confused3
For me its the added expense on my cell phone..but I really dont find a need:confused3

ME!!! Exactly like you, I have a cell w/me 24/7. My family can get ahold of me anytime. My DH and my DS' all text and I do not care to. DH keeps asking me to add it to my phone....nope.

Call your phone co and tell them to block all texts coming in as you do not want to text nor pay for incoming texts. This happened to me, noticed all these charges for texts on my statement and called Verizon and they blocked texting and removed the charges.

I don't text either, I find it a PIA. My sib text all the time and I think it's just easier to call or e-mail me. I do, however, now have e-mail on my phone which I think is kind of crazy but hey it works.

No, I don't and it took me several attempts to get my cell provider to turn off the feature, since apparently texts would come in and we'd get charged. I just got a new phone and when it was activated, they deactivated everything but the phone function....no texts, no picture mail, no data. I had some friends that just didn't understand the utter futility of sending texts to a blind lady and they now call or email if they need something. DH on the other hand has his Blackberry with the data and mail....works for him but it's not for me.
