anybody else not crazy about the newest members guide?

That is true......if you have a PC and internet access, what about for the DVC members that don't have a PC?
I guess the information and not the glitz is what's important to me. The only people I can see that would suffer any at all are the ones that are new members and didn't get the old info. As for 90% of the questions answered in the member book, I agree there are a number addressed right there in the book. I doubt it is that high as it doesn't deal with a lot of the info like park discounts, transfer rules and the like. It also doesn't cover a lot of info in the POS that we discuss at times.

Well, I'd like to voice my opinion but since my guide hasn't arrived yet, I can not respond!! Even though many of you don't like it, I wish mine would arrive SOON!!!

I agree that the book is well laid out, but I want something that I can look at and enjoy for a whole year until my next DVC vacation!
After a year or two I KNEW all the info, But I still like to take my guidebook to a cozy reading spot from time to time(when the New England weather or the crazy pace of life get to be too much and I need a break) with a cup of coffee or glass of wine and plan our next 10 DVC vacations! :p I KNOW I am a sick woman, but this is how I am....
Anyway, I like all the detail and good photos I can get - as well as those lovely DVC member vacation shots!

so I HAVE to mention it.....the cover picture - you know the one where the father is not evening facing the camera (LOL) look at his leg - he can't possibly be standing on it - . As someone else said - it is a media company, you should be able to fake it well enough that we all don't notice! :D

I know that's a silly complaint about the new guidebook - but I want to show this stuff to my friends and tell them how great MY Disney DVC membership is compared to their TimeShare Properties!!! :jester:

Have a Disney Day,
Dizknee Denna

It looks like the outside of his front foot is hitting the pavement. Nice work with the shadows of the feet.

I know....it's not THAT important...but we are spoiled after all.....and we do like THE BEST and we're used to Disney giving us THE BEST....so it's their fault for spoiling us.
Of course we expect a gorgeous guidebook!!!!
Anyway...I would love to see more ACTUAL photos myself; I know I've sent in some killer photos of our family doing the Disney thing...and I love the Disney Mag for just that reason, updates, information, pictures from around the parks.

I guess the guidebook is just for practical purposes, points, etc.
Now, back to working on my Disney photo album.....

Oh, just a suggestion. I kept the old binder and removed the old material....I insert printouts from online information I collect, such as plane reservations, car rentals, reservation confirmations when I receive them in the mail. I use the tabs to keep the upcoming and past trip information separated....that way I can reference the old ressies, room numbers, etc..and I bring the binder with us on the trip. It's quite the impressive binder.

;)

Hey Lodgelady!

I feel the same way! I guess we have a lot in common!:p

I can't critique the guide because I haven't received mine. Settlement was Aug 11th, so I'm a newbie, but I'm looking forward to the new materials. Does it usually take a while for new members to be fully processed into the system, and receive Vacation magic, Members' Guidebook, etc.?

I completely disagree with you guys. The guidebook is just as "user-friendly" as it was last year...maybe even more so. I also like the fact that DVC used an actual member family to showcase the product and the benefits throughout. Does it really make a difference if they listed all of the children's names....? Sheez

I think it has wonderful Disney queues and Disney whimsy and using the family helps reinforce what DVC is all about..being a family.

Hello Simba1! Where does it say that the featured family are members? I only found a place that said they were from Miami area. I liked that they used a family too, but I would have preferred a variety of families of all types rather than looking at that same family page after page. Also, as was stated in the original post, the way the photos were cut and pasted it appeared that the family wasn't even really at Disney....very fakey looking.

anniet...I am glad to hear I am not alone!

Simba1,

I agree with lodgelady, pictures are so "fake looking" they make me want to throw up

, and probably not even on DVC property.
I see you live in Celebration, do you work for Disney or DVC?

I find it so interesting that everyone has an opinion about what they do not like, but no one seems to offer any solutions or suggestions.

Everyone should be entitled to share their opinion, but I have seen many of these boards criticize Disney and DVC exhaustively. I happen to love Disney, and not that they cannot continue to improve and grow, it would be refreshing to read on these boards things like "what members love about Disney" and DVC vs. always being so negative.

For those that are real "DVC lovers"...stand up and be counted. This is a great product, from an incredible company that seems genuinely interested in trying to improve their operation.

For those that seem content in constant criticism of DVC, I understand that their are other products available for you to purchase. For me...there's only one option - Disney.

Simba1,

I have never said 1 negative remark about DVC(besides cruising pts). Why would 4 members of our family have joined DVC if we were not happy with DVC??

P.S. Which do you work for Disney or DVC?

The information is pretty good this year. The pictures and the layout does look cheap.

I must disagree. I think there is a lot of what you say you haven't seen on this board. I think far too many people feel Disney and DVC can do no wrong. Most on this board are honest and feel as I do. They may disagree on what the problems are or how to correct them and that is where most of the discussions lie. I'll be the first to say I love Disney and DVC, I'll also be the first to say there are issues and problems. Things can and should be improved in many areas.

One of the problems DVC has is that what might be an improvement for me might be a detriment for another. I love the DVC resorts but feel the weekend points should be adjusted to even out the usage. I think the points options outside DVC resorts are a joke. I feel DVC should, but is not obligated to, give additonal perks and discounts such as park pass discounts. I feel there are written rules reguarding occupancy and DVC should enforce the rules. I feel that renting points is within the rules and that anything short of opening an office and hanging a neon sign is not "commercial". I prefer the new book to have more real info, even if that means losing all of the pictures. Obviously many disagree on some or all of these issues. I chose some of the more controversial issues to emphasize that there are areas we can disagree on and still love DVC, as I do.

OTOH, I love the DVC resorts, well all but one, and I like it. I also enjoy the parks and feel that overall they are a class act.

... just look back in your old issues of VM. Looks like that was the "archieve" they were cutting from.

I think the book has very good info, but it doesn't feel like a book that will stand up to too much use,I'll bet the pages start popping loose from the binder. But hey,if my dues are paying for it,cheap it up all ya want,it's not going on my coffee table.

Whoa Simba1!

We try to all be friends here! I bet if you spend a little more time on the Dis boards and do a search in the archives you will find lots of threads with topics such as "what members love about Disney".

As far as being critical,I hold Disney to a high standard! If I see, as a member, that something is not of the quality it should/used to be I will post to see if it is JUST my view or if others think so also.....I don't do it just to cast a bad light on the company I have a vested share of!

Not saying what is wrong would make us a discussion board of STEPFORD DVC owners! :teeth:

The information was basically the same. I wasn't crazy about the pictures. I want to see what the resorts and rooms look like. There's not enough of that in the guidebook. The one thing I really do miss though is the "packet" on the inside back cover for holding papers. I use photocopies of the point charts (from the old 3-ring binders). I carry them forward in each book so I can have my history all together. The one in the book is a joke because it's not transferrable. Also who can write with the crack of the margin down the middle!?! So, putting a packet back in next year's guidebook would really be great. I also use it to store new stuff, like when we got the information and point chart on BCV.

I have to second lodgedlady- those of us who have been going to Disney for 20+ years have been spoiled by high quality and standards. Yes many things will change but Disney set the bar up high and we've come to expect first class all the way. This love and appreciation of Disney quality is why so many of us joined DVC in the first place. The book looks cheap and while it provides useful info it has no class. I think many have already stated what they want - more pictures of the resort, better planning pages, real photos vs paste in's.
