Anybody else miss LOCAL banks?

I remember way-back-when going to the bank -- inside with the long lines on Fridays to cash my paycheck and seeing a host my neighbors, co-workers, the community, etc. That local bank did not have drive-through service.

It's not like that anymore now-a-days. This past weekend, I was telling my older son how my banking days used to be for me 25 years ago.

I miss my local bank and the personal service we received.

We must live in a super small town, because my DH runs into so many people he knows. Sometimes a short Saturday trip turns into a gab fest....not that he admits to being chatty. ;) Now me, I get in and get out.

I'm a teller at a local bank and it's refreshing to hear that people appreciate them. I fear that once the older generation is gone (Our customer base is mostly the elderly. They don't seem to trust the computer age.) the teller job will be gone. I too never stepped foot in a bank before I started working at the bank. I always used DD, ATMs, and online banking. One of the reasons the big banks are becoming popular is because you can use them anywhere. If you live in one town, work in another, you can make a withdrawal or deposit at either. With our bank, we have a few affiliates with the same name in near by towns, but we have no way of getting the customers account info. This is an inconvenience for some. Especially since this is a State worker oriented town and many commute here.

For those that appreciate your local banks and tellers, please let them know. I know at our bank we always strive to put the customer first. We'd love to hear why you would rather keep us local rather than merging.

Nope, we still have a GREAT local bank that we've been dealing with for 30+ years. Actually, DH had the account for a couple of years before we met too. Never have to show ID there, we know most of the people working there. DH can get a loan on his good name alone. I got my first loan, in my name, last month and the VP of the bank "bent the rules" a bit in order to give it to me. I'm a waitress and it's very difficult to determine how much I actually make in a year, but we finally came up with a number and it was really too low to give me the loan but he did it anyway. Found out my individual (not joint with DH) credit rating is 750 so was very happy about that too!! :thumbsup2

there are a couple local banks in this area. i guess technically they are regional, but they still offer the best customer service imho.

our primary bank right now is a local credit union and i hate it. they have horrible customer service and until recently their only publically accessible branch was 18 miles from where we live. furthermore, they never have the best rates in terms of mortgages, personal loans, or car loans... we are thinking of switching everything over to a specific regional bank whose service we have been more than happy with when we move this summer.
