Anybody else have this grouping of dx?

I will try to make this quick since is not the core of the thread.

Your older son is certainly not "classic" add or adhd he is just subclinical aspie, since you do not mention it I assume his social skills are ok (innate or learned). Like I said it is just that most clinicians are uniformed or uneducated about filter out autistic characteristics. For him executive functions supports will go a long way to helping him.

It sounds like you have developed quite an understanding of aspieness. you are right that it is not on his radar. First it is not important until they step on gravel or find out it is to cold, wearing shoes is a social convention. I went a whole summer without wearing shoes when I was 14, just to prove it was not a necessity. The instructions sound like they are in a linier form so my best suggestion would be to have a picture of them "ready" for school and post it at the exit. highlight the critical items. Aspies easily look past things since we have already moved on to some other visual analysis, particularly if there is an inviting subject (tv on, its a beautiful spring day etc). My son has made significant progress in this area but it can be inconsistent.
As part of his EF accommodation we try to accumulate all needed items ahead of time.

It drives my wife crazy too!! As you might expect it does not bother me at all (the absent minded professor thing)
