My DS was 6 in February and he's 4ft 3 and wears size 5 shoes. I'm 5' 9 dad is 6'7...He's always been taller than the other kids his age. He's in basketball at the YMCA and because he turned 6 he's now in the group with kids from 6 to second grade. He happens to be the only 6 year old there, the other kids all happen to be on the other end of the age limit (all are 8 and one is actually 9). He's taller than most of the other kids, but of course he's physically not as coordinated. He does great, he even won the freethrow contest they had last night...But he has trouble with other things like the layup drills the coach was doing. He didn't get the left and right thing, and some of the bigger kids we kind of teasing him. I was talking to another mom and she didnt even realize my DS was 2 years younger than her kid! I also talked to the coach and he didn't know either....I know he's probably just fine for kids his own age, but I feel bad for him when he gets teased. Even when he was a baby people were asking why he wasn't walking yet when he was 8 or 9 months old be cause he was so tall....they wondered why he talked so babyish at 2 because they thought he was 4. Anyone else go through this??

I can laugh because I understand. My DH is 6'4 and my 7 y.o. DS is well on his way to being 6 feet. He's so skinny you can count his ribs when he stretches his arms up. I'm only 5'3 and he comes up to my br**st already. Your not alone!!

Mine's been tall all along and in the 95th percentile for everything! I bet by the end of the next school year, he's my height if not taller. The pediatrician says he'll be 6'2" or 6'3". That's based on last year's physical. Haven't had this year's done yet. I'd say he's up to the bridge of my nose...in 5th grade!

My guys are tall also. It does make it hard when people believe they are further along developmentally!. My last little (tall) guy is a late talker, also, so he appears to be a 7 year old who can't speak clearly! (He is 4.) It makes it worse, because he is an early reader! Confuses a lot of folks. Oh well...this too shall pass!::yes::

My boys are both tall one is 5 and the other 2 ,the 5yr old is a 95 pct. on the charts the 2 yr old is off them. Older kids will go up to talk to the 2yr old and when talks back they look shocked because he talks like a 2yr old. But they are both healthy and make friends really easy. So I'll take a tall .

My ex is 6'4" and says that when he was young he used to get picked first on teams when he played basketball because everyone assumed he would be the best because of his height. He wasn't and actually was very uncoordinated and got picked on and yelled at by his teammates because of it. :(

Not a son, but my daughter was almost 4'2" at 6.

Haven't done the 7 year measurement, I'm kind of scared.....

My son was weird- Stayed 47 inches for oh a year and a half (exactly 47- why is this weird- I worked Rock n Roller Coaster and so he couldnt ride the whole year I worked there...)

Then he hit a spurt and is now aiming for my height (5'1) which he'll prob reach this year :( He's 9

Soon he'll have to do the reach the top shelf cause I cant... -em

I have always heard that if you want to find out how tall someone is when they are finished growing that you are suppose to look to see how tall your boy was at 2 years old and double it and girls are at 18 months and double it and that is how tall they are suppose to be when they are finished growing.

Said that my 9 yr. ds is suppose to be 6'4" and my 6 yr. ds is suppose to be 6'6". my 2 1/2 dd is suppose to be 5'5".
Which could be true because my dh is 6'2" and I am 5'6".

My ds's have always been high on the charts--infact, my second ds has always been off the charts:eek:

I can also wear my 9ds shoes comfortable--i wear a size 9 in womans.--i had to buy him a size men 8 in sandal last week--oh how they grow so fast!!

Anyway, didn't know if you guys have ever heard that before!

Pam:

Wow, size 5 shoes at age 6! And I thought my boys had big feet!My two older boys have always been tall. The pediatrician warned me early about people having high expectations for them because they appear older than they really are. I'm only 5'2'' so they get all their height from my husband, who is 6'2''.

The baby, who is now 15 months old, is starting to get comments about how he should be talking more, "since he's two." So many people have said that lately it is driving me crazy. The lady at the shoe store couldn't get over it, since he's already a size 7!

I laugh when I think of myself as a shrinking old lady with 3 sons towering over me.:rotfl:

I heard that., Pam, from my son's pediatrician when he was two. He checked his height and looked at me and said, So where is he getting his height from, because it SURE ISN'T YOU!! I'm 4 foot eleven!

My son is 11, 5 feet one and wears a 11 1/2 shoe. I think his feet are about with Shaquille O'Neal at his age!!! He's always been in the 95 percentile in height while I was still teetering between midget and sub normal height!

His Dad is 6 feet but so is his Grandmother! His Dad spent most of his teenage years ill so they think it affected his growth. DAILY someone asks me "his Dad is a BIG GUY, huh?" Uh, no.... :teeth:

Neither of the kids, but me. I was about my adult height (6' 6") by the time I was a freshman in HS, and that was long ago. More tall kids today than back then. Teased plenty. And always asked about the football (could not play because of allergies) and basketball (did play, under duress, felt like I 'had to', though did not really enjoy, was not good, need more than just height).

Tough at times, Jamiee, but he will do well.

My 14yo DS is very tall too. He wears a size 11(!) shoe already. In fact, since he looks so much older than 14 and I look much younger than 35, DS & I are always mistaken for bother and sister! To make matters worse, DH is mistaken for our father when the three of us are together! :jester: DS & I don't mind but DH gets pouty when someone asks him how old his "daughter" is.
