Anybody else do this?

On our day to leave we get kind of, well... anal (hope it's ok to use that word) and we try to leave our place nearly as clean as we found it. We take all our recycleables to the bins. Remove, tie up, and place all the trash bags by the front door. Run all utensils and kitchen items in the dishwasher. Place all the bath towels and wash cloths in a pile in the bathtub. Put the furniture back in the original spots. Make sure fridge is empty. And leave a decent tip and a thank you note for mousekeeping. Is this normal? or are we just quirky.

We try not to leave the place like a sty, but we don't go haywire either.
All trash is in the can, bottles in the bucket, and the towels generally make it to the bathroom floor. We load the DW, but don't run it as I believe they must do it anyway.

Yes, we do leave a tip with a thank you note...

We do the same thing. Clean the dishes, wipe the counters. Pile the towels in a single pile in the bathroom, etc.

I do the same thing. I think I do it mostly out of habit. My house reflects me so why not on vacation.

We don't empty trash but do everything else. I feel like anything I do to help will make it more likely that the next guest will be able to get into the room early.

Well, we don't leave things a sty, but I assume that mousekeeping is wiping the counters, vacuuming, all that stuff (and I want them to do that), so I don't do it on top of that. Yes, most of the dishes make it into the dishwasher, but you can definitely tell we've been there.

I agree! I've even been known to run the vacuum! Before I leave home to go to DVC, I clean my house. (don't want the petsitter to think I'm a slob!) So, before I leave my "second home" to come back to NJ, I clean that house too. We've always figured that Mousekeeping probably has to clean up for a lot of people who aren't quite as anal as we are, so it all works out.

I learned it from my parents. When we used to rent shore houses, we ALWAYS cleaned the whole place before we left. Every person we rented from asked us to come back, so we must have been doing something right.

We do the same and take all trash to the trash room - Don't vacuum or do floors unless someone has spilled something other that the ususal dirt that comes in on your feet every day. I think it helps to make rooms available sooner if mousekeeping starts with a lesser amount of cleanup and having all the towels etc in one place should help as well as the dishes in the dishwasher if we haven't already run them through and put them away. Just seems like common courtesy to all concerned - the mousekeepers and the DVC members waiting to get into that room.

Our past stays at DVC have been as renters of another members points so we really made sure to leave the room in order. Towels are all piled up in the bathtub, fridge is empty, all trash is in the trash cans, dishes are all washed and put away, coffee pot is clean, bed linens are taken off the beds and piled with towels, etc.

I figure mousekeeping has to vaccum and wipe down no matter what I do, so why should I clean so they can clean on top of it??

Beach houses, I follow the rules. Throw out all trash- and I have never lost a deposit and could always go back.

its a vacation guys-- okay to leave it clean, but we don't need to be scrubbing toilets and showers and vaccuming ---- IMNSHO---- LOL

I wonder if people get in earlier when you clean-- I would guess not, since mousekeeping still has to do all those things anyway-----

But, do any of you want to come to my house and clean? I live in the DC area-- free room for cleaning!! LOL (no wait, pay me and then clean the room too)---

No really, no flames please. I think its nice if you want to clean--- maybe I am taking the unpopular view--- leave it neat--- not clean---- does that make sense???

I completely agree. In fact, some time ago here on the boards some members were talking about washing sheets and towels. It was pointed out that it was wasteful, as they must be washed with a commercial grade machine between guests.
I was also under the impression that all dishes must be washed between guests, but I doubt that actually happens.

I'm always afraid to clean too thoroughly, as housekeeping may not re-clean the item. The counters could end up wiped with a paper towel, and not really "cleaned".
I load the dishwasher, but leave a note saying it has not been run. I don't want them to put away dishes that have only been rinsed.

When my sister stayed with us in the second bedroom, she made her bed before she left. I messed up the covers so housekeeping wouldn't think the bed wasn't used and neglect the sheets.

You are correct again... Most importantly it is our vacation, and we pay for not having to scrub the counters.

I clean up too and vacuum but do not put trash out. Figure it speeds things up for the next occupant. Do unto others...I would like to get into my room sooner so figure this helps

I also do the basics of tossing the towels in the tub, emptying the fridge and leaving the villa relatively clean, but I don't go nuts. I'll bet Mousekeeping appreciates the opportunity to relax and watch their soap operas when they get into some of your units
