Yes, we try to leave the place very clean...just out of respect more than anything else. Yes, any time you stay in a hotel you are paying for maid service, however we are able-bodied adults and we don't feel that someone else needs to clean up after us.

Hi, 3DisneyKids. I truly mean this with the utmost respect for you and your opinion, but I disagree with this statement.
As you can see from my two earlier posts in this thread, we do leave the place in a respectable fashion.

With that said, it is the housekeepers JOB to clean up after us. That is the whole reason for their existence--> to clean up after us.

Please, I hope nobody takes that the wrong way. I'm totally against trashing the place or being disrepectful to other human beings.

Now we don't leave the place a dump, but I don't vaccum or wipe counters. We put all towels together in bathroom- trash in cans----

I figure mousekeeping has to vaccum and wipe down no matter what I do, so why should I clean so they can clean on top of it??

Beach houses, I follow the rules. Throw out all trash- and I have never lost a deposit and could always go back.

its a vacation guys-- okay to leave it clean, but we don't need to be scrubbing toilets and showers and vaccuming ---- IMNSHO---- LOL

I wonder if people get in earlier when you clean-- I would guess not, since mousekeeping still has to do all those things anyway-----

No flames from me but I feel better when we leave the place in clean.

Washing sheets and towels we don't do ,but we do stack them neatly in the tub for MK to pick up.

But everything else is really **** and span when we leave. If it give makes MK have a little bit easier of a day, I have no problem with that. They deserve it IMHO.

You see, that's one of my points.
Yes, I'm all for making folks life easier, but I don't want housekeeping to look at a wiped down counter and figure it's good enough. I want them to clean it with the industrial strength stuff that they have.

(Okay, perhaps couter tops are not a good example, and perhaps they don't use some secret sterilizer, but you get my point.)

On our day to leave we get kind of, well... anal (hope it's ok to use that word) and we try to leave our place nearly as clean as we found it. We take all our recycleables to the bins. Remove, tie up, and place all the trash bags by the front door. Run all utensils and kitchen items in the dishwasher. Place all the bath towels and wash cloths in a pile in the bathtub. Put the furniture back in the original spots. Make sure fridge is empty. And leave a decent tip and a thank you note for mousekeeping. Is this normal? or are we just quirky.

DisDreamer....you make us DVC owners proud...you are welcome to stay in my house if you are ever in South Florida. My home in Boca Raton needs a good cleaning.....

Of course I realize that this is the job the they are paid to do...and part of being on vacation for many folks is that they don't have to do any chores.

I should amend my statement...I'm not saying that I actually scrub the toilets and wash the sheets, etc. I just mean that we consider things like wiping down the counters and taking out the trash to be doing "the basics," and while this is certainly in Mousekeeping's job description, it takes nothing to do it ourselves...and since we are able, we feel that we should do it.

Personally, I don't look at it as mousekeepings job to clean up after ME, but rather to get the room ready for me. Some times for them that means bringing up the dumpster and shoveling out the garbage. On other occasions it is just a matter of new towels, linens, vacuuming, and sanitizing... and that room is ready for the early arriver (which I usually am). Makes that first day almost like a whole day.

We are in the middle. We make it look very respectable but we leave some chores that are likely on thier checklist anyway.

1) All trash goes in the trash cans (even what was left in the fridge and cabinets).
2) The beds are made sort of (just appearance and makes it easier to pack-they redo these anyway).
3) All towels are tossed in the tub.
4) All dishes are in the washer. (have heard they take all dishes out and rewash them anyway).
5) Counters are wiped down.
6) Leave $10 per day stayed in a 2BR or $5 for a studio and have no idea if thats good or bad, generous or cheap, necessary or unnecessary. Just an easy number.

I have gotten in the habit of straightening up before we leave. Dishwasher running, coffee pot soaking, all towels in the tub and if I have time I strip the beds and put the sheets in the tub as well. My husband takes out the trash after I clean out the refrigerator, empty all the trash cans and remove all the old soaps from around the villa.

When we stay at Marriotts' we often get a two bdrm and there are only the two of us. In that case I leave a note on the unused bed that it is clean and unused and that it doesn't need to be remade.

I think that cleaning up after ourselves is the customary thing to do. Other timeshares leave you a list of things to get done before you leave. DVC doesn't do that, neither do the Marriotts. I think they are too classy for that kind of reminder and I really appreciate that. I just know that the cleaner I leave the room, as I turn to look around for the last time before walking out the door, the better I feel about myself and my vacation. I wouldn't leave anyone's house dirty after a visit and I don't do it while staying in a timeshare. Timesharing folks are a breed unto themselves and we try to leave our "home away from home" as we would like the person before us to leave theirs.

We leave a tip, and a thank you note for mousekeeping. We do not leave the room in shambles, but it will need to be cleaned. We usually do take the sheets off the bed, and there is not excessive garbage. I do not know how mousekeeping deals with dishes, do they wash everything? Do I have to wash everything before I use things? I must admit that it is not germs, but wasting resourses that has the priority for me.

We had never travelled with little ones before, and, for us, in August, we did leave more work for mousekeeping. It was very hard to get all of the stuff and the family down in time for ME.

If "the way people leave the room" amounts to a bell shaped curve, I think we're in the middle 68%.

I understand your point

I am just not sure that the industrial stuff that they use is any stronger then the clorox cleaner,lysol disinfectant, or dishwashing liquid that you can buy off of the shelf.
