Anybody cook in their room? Do they still have that fridge swap deal? I haven’t been on the DIS board in years. Any new ways to cook in your room?

All the rooms have a fridg or drink cooler. (If you get the cooler, fill up your ice bucket and put it in there to keep in cold enough to hold milk and food), We get sandwich stuff, cheese and crackers, cereal and milk, lots of fruit. No cooking unless in a DVC villa with a kitchen.

Fridge swaps ended awhile ago... maybe 10 years? Disney put mini fridges or "beverage coolers" in all the rooms. Also the concepts of bringing a slow cooker, electric skillet, toaster, etc. seems to have fallen out of fashion, too. It was always "frowned upon" by the Disney powers that be, and with room checks happening it's easy to find folks who are cooking in their rooms, risking fire/electrical hazard, and making the place smell funky. ALSO... there are no regular coffee pots in the values and moderate resorts, just single-cup brewers, so there's no way to heat up a coffeepot of water and make hot dogs!

Seriously... I haven't seen a thread discussing in-room meal cooking in a LONG while.

nelson84 must be bored. I remember him starting these threads in the past looking to stir things up.

No we don't cook but we do eat a few things in the room to save us time/money. We will bring instant oatmeal with us and run bottled water through the coffee maker for instant oats. We bring fruit and some dry snacks but we really don't eat a ton in our room. Also, I don't think you can get a fridge in your room unless you have special meds that require it.

As far as cooking, even when we stay in a DVC room, I try to limit cooking while on vacation since I get the privilege to do that every other day of my life.

Coffee maker for instant oats. I will only do that as a last resort. I find you get nasty old coffee flavor in your oatmeal. I usually go for the hot water dispenser in the dining hall.

Never noticed that but maybe it's bc I drink coffee with my oatmeal LOL

Yes we cook in our DVC 1-bedrooms all the time :)

...but never tried it in a regular room. I don't trust any of their mini fridges to keep perishables fresh.

Unless my room has cooking appliances approved & placed by Disney or any other hotel, then NO.

We do save money by eating in the room:

Breakfast - OJ in small cartons, yogurt, muffins, bananas. Some eat while others shower to save time.

For dinner, lunch or even packing lunch for park - turkey (sometimes I take a Honey Baked Turkey), rolls, sliced cheese, mustard, pringles (cans don't crush if we go to park), snack packs of goldfish, cookies etc.

I also take case of water bottles, cans of soda, capri sun. We take water bottle each to the park.

Otherwise we book TS places we really like, and at QS share some meals or even order kid's meals. We rarely eat snacks in parks.

I like to make overnight oats, I bring a mix of dried berry fruits, use 1/3 packet of carnation instant breakfast in vanilla, a ziplock of oatmeal premixed with chia and flax seeds. Add enough water to cover the oats and mix it all together and put it in the fridge. It’s delicious and super easy. I bring small disposable ziplock containers and just wash them and fill them up again for the next day.

Dvc studios have a microwave. You could heat water. Or just toss them dogs in the microwave. They sell some microwave meals and stuff at the store s

Only breakfast. We drive so I bring an electric kettle for oatmeal and we bring small cereal boxes. Having breakfast in the room saves un money and time.
