Anybody color thier slip??

I have never heard of that it looks so awesome. I would like to try it but I'm to afraid to:scared:. My dress has light pink flowers on it, so a light pink slip would go great with it, and I bought a pair of "glass slippers" not really but close enough for me.

My dress has light pink flowers as well. I plan on matching my crinnie to the flowers as soon as I get the dress. :thumbsup2

LOVE IT!!!!!!! THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I WANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Where'd you get the dye at???

I love it so much! I used 3 boxed of RIT dye powder. I bought them at Joann Fabrics, but they sell them at all craft stores like Michaels, Hobby Lobby & AC Moore. Make sure you use the salt. I read that helps alot. Dissolve the dye ahead of time in a separate container then dump it in. It was pretty easy. Oh make sure you get rubber (dishwashing) gloves, that baby will be HOT when you go to untwist mid cycle!

Ohh, thanks so much! I'm going to have to stop at Joann Fabrics or Michaels by my house and pick some up! I can't wait to do it! I'm still scared though!! I know I will love it!

What color shoes are you wearing? White? Pink? some other color?

I was planning on wearing Silver, but then I found White Croc Sandles with green insides. My Weddign Colors are Pink and Green, so I picked them to wear! It is super easy and each box of Dye only cost $2.50!

Thanks for the info and the pictures. I have also read not to use the salt. I purchased the liquid dye - not the powder - do you think I need to add the salt?

Linda

I am not sure about the salt, I read it helps (helps what, I don't know??) and I used it and mine turned out perfect. I had the powder dye so I am not sure about the liquid. Plus since you want dark red you can always re dye if you don't get the right color.

I used the RIT liquid dye and did not use salt and I thought the color took perfectly with one bottle (I'd bought 3, thinking I could do a 2nd dyeing if necessary, but the color was perfect after 1 bottle in one cycle).

I purchased the dye yesterday and the crinnie should be in tomorrow so wish me luck.

Linda

Thanks for the good wishes.

Hey Cam - I think you should wear the pink crinnie with those great pink Mickey crocs. I have the same ones and I love them.

Linda

So right now as I write this it is in the washing machine getting dyed. I used very hot water, two bottles of Rit dye in Scarlet and a cup of salt (figured it couldn't hurt). I looked at it a couple of time and it looks red :goodvibes (so does the inside of my machine).

Hopefully the color will come out right. I am washing it in detergent and have been taking pictures as I go along.

I'll let everyone know how it comes out.

Thanks for all the pixiedust:

Linda

YAY Linda....Let us know and post pictures!

I just took my crinnie out of the machine and I think I like it. It is definately not deep red but it is also not pink. The material portion is not that dark but the trim is dark (like Cams - I guess because it is the same crinnie). The netting is darker and I can't tell yet how even the color is. I might try dying it again but I will wait until after Satuday and my dress fitting.

I must say, it was much easier then I thought it would be to do. I just ran out to get bleach to run through my machine to hopefully get some of the red out of the machine

Thanks for all you well wishes and I still do not know how to post pictures. I really need to try to figure out how to do this but I have been taking pictures of everything so one I learn how I will have lots to post.

Linda

If you email me your pictures I will post them for you!

That would be great. I need to get my camera cord (probably not until tomorrow and I will send you an email.

Thanks,
Linda

i died my crinnie and i've handed it down to lindsay to wear at her wedding. the only thing i would suggest would be to run the washer twice with hot water, detergent and bleach.

here's a not so good pic...

This is my adventure with crinnie dyeing:

Ok, so operation crinoline dyeing took place this weekend.
Julie and I both ended up with red arms, but I think the end results are worth it (I hope she thinks it too!)
In retrospect, we should have taken some photos in the process, coz we must have looked quite funny....

I didn't want to do it in the washing machine in case I ruined it, so we did it in a large plastic storage tub, filled with boiling water from various trips with the kettle and pans on the hob.
Simon graciously carried this outside for us so we didn't make a mess in the house, so we both sat out on our driveway in the sun, thankfully the weather actually held out for a change lately!
We soaked it in cold water first, then added the Rit dye to the hot tub and gave it a stir. We discovered it was too hot for our ickle hands, even with the super protection of marigolds, and I hadn't thought about stiring implements, so we used 2 coat hangers to stir and prod the skirt about with! :rotfl:
The skirt went in when the dye was all mixed in (it was the liquid dye, so pretty much mixed itself anyway) and we turned it around every 5 minutes or so to get the colour spread evenly, and kept pushing it down to be submerged constantly.
We could see it started a pretty pale pink, and I wasn't sure it was going to take at all, but as time went on we could see it getting darker.
After about 40 minutes we decided the colour didn't seem to be taking any more, and the resulting skirt colour was a pretty bright magenta kind of pink. This concerned me slightly, as I thought it would clash horribly with the burgandy bridesmaid dresses and roses, but I figures I could still wear it anyway, just for fun.
We then transferred it to a cool water tub, back and forth til the water ran clear.
We hung it out on the washing line to dry, and then in the garage when we went out later that afternoon.
When we returned in the evening, and had a peek in the garage, low and behold it appeared sooooo much darker, bizarre seeing as it was already dry when it went in there.
the colour was called wine, so maybe it just needed some time to mature, but I'm really please with how it finally turned out.

Here is the finished result (this flash on this picture actually makes it look pinker, and more like we expected it to finish when seeing it wet):

But I've just tried it on under my dress (after much rustling around and thinking I couldn't get back out of it - and Simon wanting to help but me shouting nooooooooo don't come up here! :lmao:) for the full effect, and these 2 pictures give a much more accurate representation of the colour:

So I deem this mission (successfully) accomplished!
Big thanks to Julie for making me leave it in the dye longer when my short attention span was trying to convince me otherwise, and to Simon for lugging big tubs of water around for us!!
