Richfield- count us in on the Chacchoben tour. I just signed us (4) up for it. I hope we get back to the ship in time for our Palo dinner reservations!
Wow! We now have at least 19 passengers from the 12/17 Disney Magic going on the Chacchoben Tour by Ivan and David while at Costa Maya on December 21:

cheermom4ever....... 2
drizzt117........... 6
mcorbo.............. 3
Momma2girls......... 4
Richfield Autopia... 4
----------------------
Total.............. 19

I hope nobody on the Carnival Glory or the Royal Caribbean Explorer Of The Seas was planning to take the Chacchoben tour from Ivan and David that day. I think that we Disney Magic passengers have already taken most of their capacity.

I am wondering how I can tell that this group is meeting on the promenade on the 17th. Basically, how do I identify people from this thread?
The Promenade Lounge on Deck 3 between Lumiere's and Parrot Cay (not to be confused with the actual Promenade that wraps all the way around Deck 4) tends to be empty in the afternoon. The Promenade Lounge is an indoor, nonsmoking space. Chances are that almost everyone in the Promenade Lounge at 3:00 PM on embarkation day will be from this thread.

Colleen- where in Canada will your sister be travelling from? I am originally from Canada.

Sandi

Hi Sandi,

My sister and her kids are flying down from Saskatoon. I am originally from there as well. We moved to NC 4 years ago.

Laura (Spotncleo) is from New Brunswick and Sandra (DisneyRocks) is from Manitoba. I think we have a few other Canadian families as well.

How old are your children?

Colleen

Hi Colleen
We are originally from Edmonton. We've been in the US for 7 years now.
We have 2 girls- 9 1/2 and 4 3/4 (5 in Feb).
Lots of people to meet!

Sandi

Hi Sandi, welcome to the group! We lived in Edmonton for 5 years, actually were married there. We will be moving to Cold Lake with my husbands job-he is a pilot with the military.

My husband wants to do the Chacchoben tour with our kids who are 8 and 6 so I'm glad you will have your girls on the trip as well. Did they give you a price for the kids, we couldn't find it.

See you soon,
Laura

It's my guess that the Chacchoben Ruins tour is likely to be boring to many children under 10. There's a van ride of almost an hour each way between Majahual village and the Chacchoben ruins. From what I've read, Ivan or David will provide fascinating insight on Mayan culture and history during the van rides — but I imagine it would be far more fascinating to adults and teens than to young children. In a relatively small van, parents won't be in a position to entertain their young children without disrupting the commentary.

I know that all children are different. But I if I think back to our Chichen Itza Mayan ruins tour many years ago, I'm glad my then-young daughters were back with Grandma and Grandpa at the time.

Please don't take this posting the wrong way. I'm not saying "stay away from the Chacchoben Ruins tour if you have young children." I'm just saying that the Chacchoben Ruins tour by Ivan and David does not seem to be oriented toward young children. You know your children, and I don't.

Based on Ivan's and David's website, the price is $43 per person. There is not a children's price listed. Additional expenses would be the taxi fare between Coast Maya and Majahual village, and any gratuities for the driver and the guide.

The Chacchoben Ruins tour through DCL has a minimum age of 5. The adult price is $69 (ages 10 and above) and the child price is $59 (ages 5-9). The tour through DCL departs form Costa Maya, not Majahual. I'm not suggesting that the tour through DCL is better (or worse) for children — only that there is a minimum age and a $10 price reduction for children, but that the price is still higher, even with the $10 reduction.

Hi Sandi:

Welcome. I have been busy trying to finish up a work project lately so was a bit behind on my readings here. We are from Manitoba and have six children. Two of our girls are the same age as your girls though. I have one that turned 9 last July and another girl who turned 4 last May. I guess they will meet your girls in the children's area.

I just received a call from our travel agent to say our cruise documents have arrived so we are very relieved to have them before we leave in 11 days. We are so excited now. My 7 year old told me this morning (as she has been for awhile now) how many days there were left. I said "that's it, no more counting". It is just getting too close and I am so far from being ready. Oh well, I am sure we will be ready in time, if not we are going anyhow.

Take care and we will meet you on the ship.

We are doing Captain Marvin's Stingray City Tour in Grand Cayman. That is something we don't have here in the panhandle of Florida. In Key West we are going to the aquarium and pirate muesum!
Donna Cook

Donna - where in the Panhandle? We're in Tallahassee. I'm Cindy D., DH is Gary, and DS#1 is 9 1/2 and DS#2 is 8. In fact #1 will be celebrating his 1/2 birthday on the 16th, the night before we sail! We are just going to do a "walk about" at Key West.

:jumping1: dancing the day away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: (can you guess what I got today?????) :boat: :drinking1 :thewave:

momma2girls,
We will be easy to spot, we will be the most excited people on the ship!!!
Just walk up to anybody in the lounge and say, who are you?? Are you from the dis board?? That is what I do, and then it's a chain reaction and just keep saying hello to everyone who shows up.
see you soon,

Kelley, congrats on the DOC'S!!!!

I'm dancing right along with you today. Just got home from the travel agent's with our documents. We have all the tickets in order now for our 3 1/2 weeks away from home.

See you soon.

I can join in the document dance too!!

Laura- The $43 price is per person. In Ivan's email he did not discourage my children taking the tour. I don't anticipate a problem on our end. DH really wants to visit some ruins and would like us all to go. Edmonton has grown! When do you move?

Sandra- No wonder your child is counting down! I see you have a terrific trip planned, and I see another good one for Dec 2007! We will be in WDW for 3 days before the cruise.

Hoping to spot all you happy DIS members on board!

Hi Cindy D.

We're in Destin. DS (not quite 6 1/2) and I are looking forward to this cruise. DH has bailed out (too busy at the office and would rather go to Europe) and DD (almost 14 and would rather go skiing) and burned out on anything Disney for now are staying home. They don't know what their missing and that means more room for DS and I in the stateroom. We are also doing Key West on our own. Probably the aquarium and pirate museum. DS loves fish and pirates. I'm mostly looking forward to rest and relaxation. DS is very social and outgoing and should enjoy the kid's clubs. We have never been to any of the ports and are looking forward to exploring some of the islands even though we live at the beach. DD loves the Seminoles and wants to go to FSU. I hope to meet you on the cruise!

Donna

I have one suitcase packed already, LOL. We are alittle excited, :rotfl:
We finally have a room number it is 6547. The TA said we still could get an upgrade once we are at the port.

As far as excursions, we have decided not to do anything. We will hang out at Costa Maya but as far as paying for any excursions DH said we will play it by ear. Key West is one of my fav places and we just hang out at Irish Kevin's and then we do some shopping.

On the ship I booked Dh and I the REAS package as a surprise and we are doing brunch and dinner at Palo's.

We are ready.

Hugs
Tami

Is anyone else having second thoughts about spa apointments that they've booked? I've read some negative reviews and dread a hard sales pitch but still want to try at least one. What would you pick?

Donna

From what I've read, writing "No Sales Pitch Please" on the top of your waiver form should alleviate this problem. It's what I plan on doing. :teeth:

YIKES!!! We leave 2 weeks from today...HOLY MOLY! Egads, there is SOOOO much for me to do in the next 2 weeks....AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! I'm going to NEED this vacation!

On the spa front...DH and I have done the spa several times, and writing "No pitch" on the bottom has seemed to work for us. No annoying sales at the end of a very relaxing massage.

I have a massage scheduled for the afternoon of the Grand Cayman day. I had thought about cancelling it but decided that I'm going to still do it - the reason I thought about cancelling was that there might be something else going on that I can't do at home - I can always get a massage at home.
