I just started Zoloft (50 mg a day) on Thursday. Ever since the first pill, I've been getting horrible nausea. Nothing tastes right to me either.

Have any of you had this side effect? How long did it take to go away? I can stand to lose weight, but blech, not this way.

My wife is on 100 mg of Zoloft. She says she has had no side effect using it. There is a generic version Sertraline Hcl. Ask your doctor if you can try that, it may not give you the effects the Zoloft does. My wife is on the generic version.

I am on that generic version of Zoloft 150 mg and I have no side effects

Actually I just went and looked on the bottle. I am on the generic version, so maybe I need to try name brand if this doesn't go away.

I also should have mentioned that I'm on Wellbutrin (generic) as well. Maybe that's why.

I was a bit nauseated at first. Stayed on it for 6 months months & thought it was bad for sex. ;) I think it was not the drug for me. Good luck. Hope it goes away soon.

I used it for about a week and the main reason I stopped was because I had such horrible nausea and I vomited every day while on it. Just not for me.

I am on 100mg of the generic, Sertraline. I started with 50mg but my Dr suggested that I break them in half and take 25mg for a few days, then 50mg. When I went up to 100mg I took one, broke one in half to make it 75mg for a few days before making the jump to 100mg. I did have side effects for about the first week when I started... nausea, a slight headache, and this weird dizzyish feeling a couple times, but it was all very short lived. I have noticed a huge difference in how I feel now, and going through a week of getting used to then medicine is well worth it to me. Good Luck!

Sertraline, or "Zoloft", is a member of the SSRI antidepressant family, a family famous for it's side effects. If the side effects continue, you may just want to switch to another SSRI such as Paroxetine (Paxil) or Fluoxetine (Prozac.)

Do you take it in the morning or at night? Do you take both meds at the same time?

Based on my sensitivities and low weight, 50 mgs. was basically an overdose for me (prescribed by another doctor when my own was on vacation).. Stopped taking it immediately.. When I went back on it, my dr. prescribed half of a 25mg - taken at night - so if I experienced nausea or side effects it would happen while I was sleeping.. That dose worked well for me - actually helped me sleep better - and I had no side effects..

DD takes 50 mgs - again, at night - no side effects..

Since you're taking 2 meds, you may have to play around with the Zoloft dosage and/or take one med in the morning and the other at night.. You can either work your way up slowly to the 50mgs - or you may find you don't need that much.. 50mgs. is a "typical" starting dose - doesn't necessarily mean it's the right dose..

Good luck! :goodvibes

I'd talk to the doctor who prescribed it for you about your side effects. They might want to switch you to another medication rather than keep trying to make it work. Its not like there aren't a ton of other similar drugs to choose from. :)

FWIW, I was on zoloft when I was in high school and had no side effects. Of course, it also didn't really do anything for me. lol

This is the way the Dr. introduced the drug to a friend of mine. I would suggest you contact the Dr or the pharmacist and see if this would be the way to go.

I am on the generic (for about a month now). The only side effect I have had is REALLY vivid dreams. I can not even explain how real they feel to me. Other than that though I have not experienced anything other than dry mouth.

I've been taking Zoloft, then Sertraline, for years and have never had the nausea side effect.

Thanks, guys! I'll give my doctor a call if this nausea doesn't clear up soon.

C.Ann, I have different meds I take at different times of the day. One has to be taken on an empty stomach with NO other meds. One with food. Two right before bed. So I take my Wellbutrin at noon with lunch. I noticed the Zoloft makes me a little sleepy so after the first day I decided to take it around 9 at night.
