Any working for the US Census?

I start my training on April 12th as a crew leader, but other than telling me I have a team os 12-15 I will oversee and it will last 4-6 weeks, I know very little about it.. Anyone help me?

I'm in the same exact situation. They called me yesterday for the crew leader position for the same start date. The lady told me I would be trained to fingerprint the enumerators and I will be coordinating the areas we will be working in...

Any idea how flexible these jobs are??? I am currently sub teaching and working as a site manager for youth softball and baseball games on the weekends.. Would LOVE to do all 3 if at all possible.. Obviously the sub work is day by day, can completely pick and choose when I work.. Tournament schedules aren't set yet, but its weekend by weekend..

I am working the current phase of the Census. I thought the next phase was chasing after Census forms that hadn't been returned. We were told that, that could entail working evening and weekends, because you need to catch people at home. I would suggest you call your local Census office and ask them just what hours and days you would be expected to work. I've never been a Crew Leader before.

It is going to be variable hours. I was told I would work 24 hours during the weekdays, including some evening hours. The other 12 hours would be on the weekends. The woman who hired me read a whole script about making sure I could adhere to these types of hours. It seems like there is not much flexibility for the jobs now since they've moved into the different phase of the census.

My crew leader from the last phase is going to be mine again for this next one. She's already told me that we'll be training the last week of April and starting right after that. It didn't seem to be too hard--she literally was required to read word for word from the training manual while we followed along. The worst seemed to be the mounds and mounds of paperwork that was required, and she had to keep track of it all! Tigerfan, the hard part is that you have to be available for those 3-5 days of 8 hr training, no exceptions. You do get paid for it, plus mileage to training, and paid for your drive time, so that's nice.

I've enjoyed it so far!

Thanks, my training days I have cleared out my schedule, had one sub day lined up and already cancelled it... was just hoping to sneak in a day or 2 a week of subbing once the training is over...

This is all "extra money", but still the more the better..

I too will begin crew lead training on April 12th (in south Florida). I am anxious to learn what the job actually will be. I was told the hours will be between 9am - 9pm during the week and weekends. I was told I would need to train numerators ( using a script) and do their scheduling and ensure their paperwork is completed.
