I had weight loss surgery 2 years ago and my soon to be 5 year old can out eat me. I really want to do the DDP, but know that I can't eat $40 of food per day. I eat more often than 1 ts, 1 cs, and 1 snack. It would be more like 3-4 snacks per day and 1 ts, 1 cs.

Any experience with wls & ddp?

Then don't look at it from the cost standpoint. Schedule meals your family will enjoy and limit your intake of food to what's reasonable for you. Enjoy a few bites of each course rather than cleaning your plate.

Share your child's CS breakfast with her and then have her share your CS lunch with you. (Same difference as having snacks or smaller meals) Then ask for a bowl of fruit/grapes or carrots as your dessert at the CS lunch. Save that for an extra snack later. Use your snack credit when needed. Then plan your TS meals at the right times so you can enjoy your main meal of the day. If you need to pay OOP for extra snacks at the end of the week, then do it. A piece of fruit is only about $1.

As far as the cost- if you do buffets or fixed price character meals, then you are paying the adult price anyway. If your child can out-eat you, then share your food with your child. It'll all work out in the end.

If you were paying OOP for light meals at Disney you may approach that $40/day mark anyway. And your under 10 yo would certainly exceed that $10.99/day value.

I had WLS three years ago and I still can't eat much. I did free dining in 2005 (It was just one year after surgery at that point). I knew my limitations and split all my CS with my then 5 yr old. That part worked out great. As for TS, I ordered all three components of the meal...appetizer, entree, and dessert. I tried to pick a dessert that I could take back to the resort because I knew I couldn't eat it then. It made for a nice late night snack for me or family later. For appetizers, I ordered mainly soup because it slides right thru, leaving room for the meal. I ended up trying some soups that I otherwise might not have and I discovered some awesome ones (cheese soup at Le Cellier). I always ended up with more than half of my meal and my dessert to take back to the resort. About half of the "take home" leftovers got eaten and the rest got pitched but I still thought it was an outstanding value and lots of wonderful dining experiences we wouldn't have had without the dining plan. We are going back this fall for free Dining again and I think I can still share with my DD7. I hope this helps you. Good Luck!
