Can I register windows xp with the same serial number in more than one computer in my home? for some reason dh says that he doesn't think we can. Our internet service ( we have a satelite modem ) will not work with any other operating system and I would hate to have to pay again for another serial number just to use another computer.
Is my dh correct? if so , any advice would be appreciated.

1. Are you trying to install Windows XP in the 2nd computer that doesn't have it yet?

2. Or do you already have XP on the 2nd computer and just trying to hook up the satelite modem to it?

If your answer is 1. technically yes you can as long as you don't need any windows update, in which case then no because you'll microsoft will register that serial number. There are ways around this but I won't say it in an open forum.

If the answer is 2. you just need a router. With a router, you'll be able to have 2 or more PCs connect to the internet at the same time. And both PCs don't necessarily need the same operating system. I had this setup at home and we had Win 98, XP and a 2000 PC running at the same time.

Windows xp is already on the second pc but not activated yet, I have a few more days to go.
Then the router situation does not work with satelite, the main pc has to be the main hub for everyone else ( I know, big PITA ).
I hope I don't have to buy another one.

You can use a router with satelite ( I assume you mean Direcway). I have router set up (wireless) with main computer connected to the Satellite and laptop I am using right now
It was a pain in the butt to set up. I got a lot of help from the satellite forum. THey are great people there! http://www.dslreports.com/forum/sat

If you installed XP from another copy it will time out after so many uses if it doesn't have a serial number. You have to register it or buy another copy if you just used the CD from another computer.

When you go to register it sends along a snapshot of your system information and it is unique to each computer and owner.

It won't work if what you are trying to do is avoid buying another copy of XP.
