I had the VSG and I have been doing great. I am down almost 130 pounds. We are planning our next Disney trip (YAY). We stayed offsite our first trip and paid out of pocket for meals. I want the full Disney experience this time and we plan to do the dining plan. I am nervous about it though since I can't eat much. Will it be a waste of $$$? Any tips from WLS patients on what you did? Thanks!

I had GB surgery 1/09(down 140lbs) and have been to wdw the past 2 xmas weeks and have really not had any problems. I did use DDP and DH and I often shared CS meal(he often added a snack if still hungry), I often got an appetizer for my entree, I did find that many of the TS had good no sugar added desserts that I was able to get(sometimes I brought it home, others I shared with DH). I don't know if you have the same issue with sugar as with GBsurgery. I am returning this xmas week and will also do the regular DDP. It just is more convenient and the cost is reasonable. I have even eaten at Boma and Tusker House and been able to find good choices and taking the portions I can manage..

I'm not entirely sure why anyone who can't eat much would want to pay for the dining plan, unless they're planning to do lots of character meals or all you can eat restaurants (where they'd pay the same price no matter what they ate) or share entrees most of the time. Unless they're traveling with a big family or a bunch of kids (the OP has two kids under 10 and the DDP is usually a great deal for kids.)

Thanks! Congrats on your weight loss. We plan to do lots of the character meals, so I feel like the dining plan is the best way to go. I can't eat too much sweet stuff because it makes me feel sick. I will probably order appetizers like you did for meals and bring desserts home for later.

I am wondering why you would critique someone who has successfully done this and you are not in the position to know anything about what is needed after weight loss surgery. Just seems like a comment like yours is not appropriate. I answered the original poster because I have been through this and I used DDP successfully and it was also more convenient all around. I guess I reserve my comments to my personal experiences only.

It's not a critique. The OP asked if it would be a waste of money. I am not sure why anyone would pay ahead of time for food they are not going to eat if they are concerned with wasting money. Likely it would be a waste, if she were going by herself or with one other adult, but since she has kids it could make sense in some way moneywise.

So likely she is not wasting money since she has a family with kids, but I suppose if someone wants to choose the plan even though they don't want the food, it's their business. And I have seen persons asking about the plan even though it's just a couple and one of them won't eat much if anything. if that is the case, then it would likely be a waste of money to get the plan unless the couple is planning to go to a lot of fixed price meals. And she has mentioned that she plans to do "a lot of character meals" in which case the dining plan might be right for any party makeup, regardless of how much they intend to eat, since all character meals are fixed price.
