Any way to find out what a gift card is worth before using?

I have a gift card but I don't know how much it is worth. It was so easy before when the amounts were printed on the cards.

I recently rec'd this card from my boss (former boss) at my retirement lunch. I really didn't want to ask him how much as I thought that might be tacky & he didn't let me know how much. But it would be nice to know before I go and buy something & get a shock at the register.

Absolutely!

Go to the store where the gc was purchased. Go to the register and ask them to scan it BEFORE you shop. OR if there is a phone # on the back of the card, call the # and give them the #'s on your gc.

A lot of stores you can check the balance online also.

Have you checked the back of the card? 99% of the time there is a phone number and/or website you can go to and check.

There's probably a phone number on the back of the card.

What kind of gift card is it? If it's a Visa or other type of credit card gift card, stores won't be able to check the balance.
