We were originally scheduled to go on the October 12th Magic but discovered in April that we had termites in our house so we had to cancel the cruise due to lack of funds (I guess I'll just wave addios to everyone while I sit in my garage saying good riddance to the termites!!) Anyway, we switched our timeshare for a week at Smuggler's Notch in Vermont and I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice on things that I should do while in the area and things that I shouldn't miss. Family is dh, dd (age 12 1/2) and myself. Is Smuggler's Notch nice? Also, have the leaves started to turn yet (In NE PA ours haven't yet due to the hot dry summer) Any help would be appreciated!!

I have not personally been to Smugglers, but everyone who I've talked to that has gone has loved it. Apparently there is tons of stuff to do for family and kids.

We're Smuggs addicts, although we have only been there to ski. Call & ask to be in Sycamores or the other units on West Hill. They are brand-new and spectacular.

There is not a lot to do right at Smuggs beyond the resort, but the town of Stowe is lovely, and depending on your travel route, you will go right past the Ben & Jerry's factory which is not to be missed. (It is right near I-89.)

Well we are at least a week behind in foliage, due to it not being cold enough at night. I would expect it to be very nice at the time of your trip! Probably, the best time to come!

I would drive the hour to Burlington. There is lots to do up there. The Shelburne Childrens Museum is great!

You will have a wonderful time in Vermont - our state has much to offer. As was already stated we are a bit behind in the change of colors - but by the time you arrive it should be very nice. I will have to put a plug in for tourism and say it will be unlike anything you have in NE PA. I grew up in Scranton so I know the area well.

As was recommended do come up to Burlington. Check out the downtown area. Great restaurants and a nice shopping area in downtown.

The Ben &Jerry's tour is not to be missed if you like ice cream. Also check out the VT Teddy Bear factory. When you are in Burlingrton go to the waterfront. Lake Champlain is beautiful.

Stowe is a wonderful little town.

Haven't been there but there are reviews on the TUG (timeshare users group - website- tug2.net) resort review board as well as mucho information pertaining to timesharing and resort info. Don't know how much you can get into without yearly fee ( $10.00) but I know you can access enough to see if it is worth it to join. Click on "resort reviews" for info. Hope this helps.

We did our "leaf peeper" vacation two years ago. Definitely did the Ben&Jerry's tour, but something I also really enjoyed was dinner in Montpelier. Montpelier is home to the New England Culinary Institute (<a href="http://www.necidining.com/msgMain.htm"><font color=blue>www.neculinary.com</font></a>). They have seven restaurants in Vermont, and their signature restaurant is fantastic. Interesting food, prepared by student chefs supervised by skilled instructors, served in an inviting environment. And Montpelier's just a stone's throw from the Ben&Jerry factory tour.

Dave, you've reminded me that NECI has a great restaurant in Burlington, too. NECI Commons, I think. They have an open kitchen concept which was very entertaining to my then DD3. She LOVED watching the pastry chefs work.
