Any updates on the Hub construction?

Sorry I worded that wrong, this trip 2014 seemed much more hectic post fireworks show then our 2011 trip. Perhaps it was just more people in the park this trip.

The crowds are bigger than 2011...which was a relatively slow (aka NICE) period

This is also true of the magic kingdom

Yes on our way out of MK after last night EMH last visit we were directed via backstage route. It was our last night and to be honest I wish they would have not done it. Sort of spoils the magic a bit...

If I remember correctly, the same thing happened to us last year. There was a break in Main Street or just before it to the left (facing the main entrance) that they opened. It was backstage but it wasn't overly "industrial" and was a welcome way away from the heard.

I love them to do this more often. As a stroller person it was nice to be able to escape without my kids being surrounded by bodies. Problem is that it eliminates any last chance shopping opportunities.

I vote yes for it though.

folks, remember as you lament the lost of these bits of nature... it was all made by Walt.. He'll remake it just as nicely.. if he hadn't you'd be standing in mid air over 10 feet off the ground in the area of the Hub...

I don't know how a 45 year post mortem cartoonist does masonry work...

Because it has "Walt Disney" in the company title doesn't mean it's "walts people" by anyone's stretch...
These are New York/California cutthroats...no mistake.

Besides...Walt sold his name to the "company"...with his brother as its agent in the late 1950's...if I remember correctly.

That was the birth of WED enterprises...which became imagineering...which was bought by the company that had walts name but wasnt walts...in the 80's

Oh dear...I've gone cross eyed

I would not be surprised if we don't see the "arcades" or side streets parallel with mainstreet being themed as alternate walkway, complete with rear doors to the shops. They already have the alley that lead to no where on one side which will allow passage between main street and a side street, so it conceivable wouldn't take that much more to complete the them and possibly add more shops/eating/meet and greet places in the alleys to help pull crowds.

That is supposedly part of the plan

Any ETA on when the hub work is supposed to be finalized? My immediate family is going for the first time with my wife and I in December.

It's funny you guys mention that as there seems to be some "activity" going on in the back lot parking area between the entrance and TL. The latest Google Earth pictures show that they removed a temporary building that they built in the parking lot shortly after removing the Galaxy Theater. Looks like they widened the area behind the main street bakery exiting to the hub as well.
Could be just storing and staging stuff for the hub remodel but it would be cool if they were building the new bypass.
I figured that maybe the removal of the theater was to make room for the new path direct to TL but maybe it will hug the shops and come out in the hub...?

This makes me sick!! :faint: That was such a beautiful peaceful area. Disney won't rest until 'everything' is covered with cement. :(
Well it won't be all cement they will add some new garden beds and bushes. It's just an outer ring on the existing hub.

My family is making our first (maybe only?) trip Nov 29 through Dec 4. I realize it will still be under construction then.

Not sure how to really ask this question...

If you have been recently did you find it distracting? Ruin your immersion factor? etc?

Does anyone have a guesstimate on % completed now?

I will get first hand looks at it in 8 days when we are there for a week. It will be completed some time in 2015 I would think maybe mid 2015. There is nothing completed right now. I think it will look better when you are there than it does now. They are filling in the small sections of the moat that they need to at this time. They have decorated walls around the areas to make it less noticeable.

I would hope that you would take another trip to WDW in the future as well.

Here now. Overall not distracting from straight on. But if you go to either side of the castle from behind the hub, say from tomorrow land terrace or Casey's/crystal palace to can't get the same good shot of the castle.

We had a great shot from crystal that we were hoping to get again that won't happen. If you are at Tomorrowland terrace, you can see into the area and it looks like they have a while to go on that section. It will be a while till they are done with all of it.

But overall, it should not ruin any MK experience.

We love exiting through the backstage area at MK! On our last trip, the walkway was lined with CMs waving and giving well wishes. MY DH was wearing a tshirt w/ Captain America's shield and a CM yelled out to him "Have a great evening Cap! Thanks for keeping us safe!" Made DH's day! :yay:
