Any unusual occurrence prompt your decision to join DVC?

After 2 kids and 3 military transfers which resulted in 4 cancellations to WDW, we took the dive and bought into VWL. We had our first trip last month and have been extremely happy. We can't wait to go back.... and regretting not buying sooner!

Nezy - I have to agree with you! We stayed at the Hilton at DTD in June and it definitely wasn't Disney!! DH and DS kept complaining there wasn't any Disney charm or customer service! Now that we are members we will never stay anywhere else again!!

Congratulations! Welcome to the DVC. I still say "It's just not Disney", When we are not at a DVC resort. That thought has prompted 2 subsequent add-ons!

We stayed 6 nights at the Wilderness Lodge in Oct 2001. On the 6th day they called with the stampede rate. We not only added on the night they offered but stayed the remainder of our vacation- another 3 nights! We didnt want to leave this gorgeous place. On our last day we found ourselves at the Boardwalk on the DVC tour. A month later we bought DVC.

I talked my DH(who isn't crazy about Disney at all) to at least go and look. We were able to rent points at OKW from "someone who already posted on this thread" and that person was wonderful! I was also in contact with another DVC member. Anyway, we went to hear the sales pitch. My DH was very impressed with the VWL- it felt "manly" to him, but he still wasn't convinced. It wasn't until we were sitting in England, in Epcot, trying to convince our DD why we had to go and talk to our guide again that the "magic" happened. We happened to sit on a bench, when a couple just chimmed in with "You certainly DO want to go back and talk!" They then proceeded to tell my DH and DD all the benefits of owning. I sat like the "Chershire Cat" with a BIG grin on my face. My DH knew it was the perfect gift for me/us. He officially made our DVC membership our 25th Anniversary gift! ;)

I bet all guides wish it were this easy:

1. It was a mom-and-dad, no-kids romantic weekend...promo rates at CBR; couldn't have been better except for the high school band weekend that was going on at the same time (and until about 3pm each night);

2. Given Number One, we took the tour at BWV;

3. Guide says, "gee, with what you've already spent on cash rentals at OKW (twice) and BWV (once) and what you've spent for other hotel rooms on property over the past couple years, you could already be staying here for free (well, forgetting dues for the moment) for 40-some years"; then he does Magical Beginnings calculation

4. We sign up

I was in Orlando during a disaster conference (Aug. 2001) and every evening we went to WDW for dinner. A co-worker and I had been to WDW only a few times (me, just 4 times), but both of us said that the next time we would stay at Boardwalk. I saw the DVC booth and I expected it to be discounting program for WDW resorts and that it would cost only about $30 a year (naive, I know). When we took the tour the next day, I was blown away. The first thing that caught my attention was that the Boardwalk Resort was a timeshare and these were members enjoying this wonderful resort yearly! At first it seemed a bit expensive, but in the last 12 months I have come to think of it is the best investment I have ever made. And the timing was perfect; it came at a time when I actually had some funds available for something like this. My girlfriend and I have been dating for 13 years and since she is in Veterinary school we have to be apart most of the year, DVC has really give us the ability to enjoy some very special moments. We are looking forward to our marriage, DVC Honeymoon and a wonderful life together and with each of you for the next 40 years!

Once our kids started getting married and we had to split holidays, the Thanksgiving with "her" family, Xmas with "ours" dance. You know the next year you switch. I started planning a Thanksgiving family trip. After investigating and finally getting tuned into DVC we figured for the price of two family trips we could go for 40 years! We are now up to 900+ points(adding on is addictive) so we can take everyone(13 and growing) every other year and DH and I go by ourselves every year.Unless of course we decide to take other family members!
