Have any experience with a contract going to Arbitration? Our contract expired December 31, 2003. After lots of haggling, and mediation, our contract went in front of an arbitrator on May 9th. Anyone have any idea how long it may take to get a decision? I am hoping that everything is worked out before we leave for Disney the beginning of December!

I'm sorry I can't help, but I jsut started negotiating a contract for the first time a couple of days ago. So I just want to wish you the best of luck! :teeth:

It could take awhile.

DH's contract expired June 30, 2002 . . .we are still waiting . . .they went in front of an arbitrator in January . . .they are still wrapping things up and they hopefully will come to a complete agreement by the end of August . . .it surely would be nice to get out of living on 2002 wages . . . :teeth: But I will not count on it . . .especially since every year since 2002, DH has be claiming any month now . . . :lmao:

With my husband, it took almost a year. But he got back pay for the entire time without a contract so it was cool.

Yeah, it's the back pay that I am waiting on. If we end up with HR's offer, I will get about $1800 (we have to backpay for insurance increase starting 1/1/05), and if we get the Union's offer, I will get close to $4000. Needless to say, I am hoping that we win!

LOL> DH's contract JUST missed needing to go to arbitration. The only reason it didn't is because the teachers voted to agree to stay at their 2002 wages ANOTHER year (AND take a cut in how much $ his work contributes toward benefits.)

OUCH. Thank goodness he is up for a small raise anyway, due to his number of post-bachelors credits. For us, it'll be a wash instead of a loss in $. We'll still be bringing home the 2002 amount.

For the OP, I know the custodians contract ended up in artibtration. I think they worked the whole school year with no contract, but I don't know which month it finally went to arbitration. Sorry I can't help that one!
