Hello. My name is Jason and I just graduated from high school. I plan to go to Miami University: Oxford in southwest Ohio as a music education major. I play the saxophone.

Are there any other music-related majors out there? General Music? Performance? Education? Jazz Studies? Others? What instrument(s) do you play? Or do you sing?

Have you participated in ensembles like concert band? Marching Band? Jazz Band? DRUM CORPS????

This will pretty much be the music discussion thread. Lol.

Hey! I'm Laura. I'm not a music major (I'm a history major and theatre arts minor though!), but most of my friends at my college are. A few actually are MusEd majors too (my roommate for next year is one). From what I heard, MusEd is a really hard major because it's basically a double major, as you need all the requirements for a music major and an education major, which is ALOT. (at least in my school it is. I don't know about yours.), but they love it.

And I used to be in colorguard when I was in highschool, so I am used to marching band stuff. lol

I sing, and recently took an Opera Workshop class last semester, and loved every second of it... They are offereing it again in the spring so I can't wait to take it again.

anywho,

I'm not a Music Major but I was a band nerd in highschool, lol.

I've played flute for 6 years and I played alto sax for 2 years. I still occasionally play flute, for Christmas events and weddings and such and whatnot.

Just ran across this. DS is a music major-specifically, jazz studies, at University of North Texas. He got his bachelors there, now he's still there, getting his master's degree. Loves it! He's also doing some individual gigs and last month made enough in gigs to pay his bills, finally.

yeah man! I am currently a Junior at Georgia State with a Music Engineering major. I've been playing guitar for 7 years now and currently am taking Jazz Guitar studies. I was actually looking for some possible internships for Buenavista Pictures. I would love to work on sound editing for upcoming Disney films. It sounds like a dream but, isn't that what Disney is all about?

i play the clarinet and am debating weither or not to play it in college next year. good luck

Hi. I saw your thread on the main board and had to stop by. I have never been in the college section. I was a music major...about 8 years ago. Now I am a music teacher! It is a tough major...but I LOVED IT!!!!! Even better, I love my job and I love my life. If you can wake up in the morning and be happy going to work...GO FOR IT!!!!!
I was a flute major and now I have a few private students. I had about 25 private students along with a full time job. Then I had kids:rotfl: I had to cut way back on the lessons! Have fun!

My first two years of school were spent as a MusEd major. To reiterate on one of the other points I've seen here, it is like a double major between education and music. OVerall, it's a wonderful major in that it really allows you to tell whether or not music is a hobby or a profession for you. It wasn't for me, but the people it is for are absolutely in love with it and I hope the best for you that you'll find it to be amazing.
