Any truth to this? certain bags flagged at security checkpoint?

My understanding is that holding things in your hands doesn’t actually cause the scanner to fail to flag you. Instead, when it flags, the security guards can see what area of your body that the scanner is flagging, and they see it’s what you’re holding in your hands so they don’t direct you to secondary screening.

I kept setting off the scanner in May and a security guard said it was my 2 birthday/celebrating pins I had put on my backpack. I transferred them to the outside of the stroller and didn't get stopped after that. I don't mind the extra check but it really blows when you are at MK for rope drop and waited in a long line with a stroller to get through to then go into another line for the extra check.
Yes, we were told one button is okay but two will get flagged. She never wore two again.
My high heels used to set off the metal detectors at the court house where I interned.

I must say that the monorail at the Contemporary was where they tore my loungefly apart even though I had used it all day long without a problem....
We went to breakfast at Chef Mickey and were getting back on the monorail with only items we purchased at the gift shops and my daughter's boyfriend got flagged but he doesn't speak English so she went over closer with him to translate. They were pretty aggressive with getting her to move on yelling at her that they spoke Spanish and would take care of it. She responded that he speaks Portuguese to which he paused for a second then yelled we both do too (referencing the two workers on duty). She backed away (she is a police officer and understands the importance of following instructions) but according to him they never spoke to him in Portuguese, they kept asking questions in English. The entire encounter was just very odd, it was our last activity on our trip as we were heading back to our resort to meet out transportation back to the airport and I will say it left a little bit of a sour taste.

We were flagged sometimes and not others with the same bags, same items and one security person said sometimes it is because of how the bag is resting on your back that can cause you to be pulled out.

I've had pretty much every scenario listed here. Same bag, same contents, random results. Dooney, Loungefly, Vera Bradley. All metal items held out, sometimes pulled, sometimes not. Too dependent on how "Barney Fife" wants to flex his one bullet. Disney just needs to follow Universal's lead and send everything through airport type scanners.
