I really wish there was a way to get a good deal on airfare from the tri-state area. It seems there always specials all over the place but not for NJ/NY.

Southwest is great but flys out of everywhere except NJ/NY.

Anyone know of any tips/tricks/good deal for airfare from Newark, JFK, or Philadelphia?

The best I've seen lately is right around $200. I'd love to find the $148 deals they had a few years ago.

Any advice is much appreciated!!

American Airlines had really good fares out of Laguardia this month. Not sure if they ended yet though. Everything else has been outrageous.Newark gets higher and higher every time I check prices.

Check rates for Spirit Air out of Atlantic City, and Air Tran out of Philly.

Try www.Flysong.com They have fares from LGA and JFK for around $150/roundtrip. I should have booked yesterday, but procrastinated! Yesterday fare was $130 LGA.

If you're willing to drive to Islip(eastern LI) you can get good buys on Southwest.

How about Southeast out of Allentown... www.flyseal.com

We are flying them at Christmas for a price of $130 per person...flights are limited because they are a pseudo charter..but the people I know that have flown them have enjoyed their service...

I got Song for $140rt lga-mco 11/17-11/24

Jetblue was $150 out of jfk

swa out of isp was $140 when they went on sale

Check out spirit air out of laguardia . i got $120 rt with taxes included Sept 15-27th. Couldnt beat the price. Also try Jetblue out of JFK. Good Luck!!!!

I recently flew Air Tran from Philly. Save some $$ by flying
weekdays not weekend.

I am paying $160 r/t on JetBlue out of JFK..my first time not flying out of Newark..but the price..plus the TVs to entertain the kids..I couldn't pass it up.

Depending on where you are in NJ, Atlantic City is a good choice. Spirit is no frills, but so is Delta and Continental at this point. They have a 7 AM flight out everyday. AIY is a really small airport, so you miss out on all the thrills of EWR. ;)

DH loves AIY because the flight is shorter (by about 20 minutes). He hates to fly, so every little bit helps. Also, the parking at AIY costs MUCH less than the other airports.

I've found that being flexible about the days of the week helps. Tuesdays and Wednesday are usually cheaper.

To fly out of Philly Usair or Airtran is pretty much it. USair is at about $200 rt right now...I paid much less last year...I wasn't happy w/ the prices this year! AirTran offers some great rates but you can't book too far in advance and in my experience the cheaper flights didn't fit my schedule or weren't direct...however a friend flew Airtran out of Philly a few weeks ago at $49 per leg! I'm never that lucky...Southeast out of LVI (Allentown) does not fly to MCO but Stanford which to my understanding is about 45 minutes further than MCO to WDW...if using a limo service they do charge more for that transfer, plus the extra time you loose in travel....you might want to keep that in mind too.

I booked my flight for my 10/28 - 11/4 trip a few weeks ago in mid-June. As someone mentioned, out of Philly, your choices are (for direct flights) USAir or Airtran. Airtran was cheaper at $151.50 r/t to MCO. I don't know where you are in Jersey, but if you drive to Philly international, there are plenty of places to leave your car for around $50. Or you can stay at a hotel for the night 7 leave your car there. I am contiplating this option (I live about 30 miles from the airport) as my flight is at 8am & I might not be able to get a ride.

OP said that USAir and AirTran provided the only direct flights between PHL and MCO. Doesn't United have 6 or 7 outbound direct flights a day from PHL to MCO? At least that is what United's web site shows.
The latest fares are around $200 rt now.

As someone else mentioned, Southeast Air flies from Allentown, PA (ABE) to Sanford (SFB). Contact them at www.flyseal.com
Their schedule is very limited and available seats book quickly, according to other posters. Depending on seat availability, you could get a fare as low as $130 rt.

Sanford is a good airport and many charter flights arrive daily there, especially carrying visitors from Europe.

Good luck to you.

I've never know United to fly directly out of PHL to MCO...not that I'm all knowing. Unfortunately PHL is a USAIR hub and it maintains an outrageous number of gates..there was actually an expose in Philly Daily News in regards to this....they financed part of the current construction to maintain those gates...and the lease does not expire for sometime (don't remember the year). Especially in regards to good times and direct flights to MCO. We are at their mercy. For instance BWI is appx. 90 mins away and offers flights at about 2/3 of the cost...but by the time you drive/park/stay the night it isn't worth it...unless you have a larger family...for 3 not worth it! If I lived closer to Newark...I would fly from there. I live in the Western Burbs and certainly not worth it! Good luck finding a cheaper flight..if you do let me know!

Thanks for the information, mep319, about United direct from PHL to MCO. On the United web site, United lists direct flights from PHL but they are operated by USAir. It is the same airplane, but the flight can be booked as either USAir or United.

So, disneycrazed139, I guess that you have your answer about tri-state area tips. Also, dcgrumpy, disneydiva58, AspiringCindy and JVL1018 posted good current lower fare possibilities from NY.

USAir and Airtran are showing fares of $163.00 form PHL to MCO. I don't know the detail b/c I'm not looking right now but I've signed up for fare alerts from Yahoo.com. Okay I tried to post the alert but it didn't work. Go into Yahoo Travel...It looks like the fares are good until 12/03...you can sign up for alerts yourself.

We haven't made reservations yet, but I think we'll be flying out of LVI using Air Tran. The price is good (like $200 r/t for both of us), but they only have 1flight a day (it leaves at 3:45, gets to Orlando 6"ish), coming home isn't bad, more like 12:45. But LVI is close to where we live, it's our first time trying it so if anyone knows anything about Air Tran - I'd love to hear it (I think, assuming you're not gonna tell me they're the worst in the world):lmao:

thanks!!

oh, we're flying Wednesday to Wednesday so I don't know if that makes a difference price wise. We can't use Allegiant cause they have no flights on Wednesdays.

Southwest does have non-stop (direct) flights out of Philly.

USAirways has the market “cornered” somewhat in PHL, but because of the direct competition with SWA, the fares are now usually fairly decent (depending on time of year). We paid more for our tickets on USAirways this year than we did last year, but the fare was still within our comfort zone. AirTran is another option, but watch out for the myriad fees they seem to have.

Have you tried looking at Jet Blue? They fly out of Newark and usually have very competitive fares. And they are a great airline IMHO.

Sign up for every airline email alert you can think of. Do you have DING! downloaded? Getting a good air fare takes a lot of vigilance and jumping on one when you find it.

parrotheadlois - we're in Warren Co. also!

I booked AirTran when it was $159 r/t. Non-stop from ABE right into MCO is so much better than Allegiant into Sanford. I need to book one more for DD's BF, but it's at $229 right now and hoping it will go down.
