is there any trend for those getting email codes?

visits to Disney recently? New signup on disney's site? etc...

Noone knows but I have a very strong suspicion of how it works....I believe that you have to be in their database as a prior guest, but not have gone in a while. Heres why....we usually go 3 or 4 times a year, one year we went other places and I got 2 postcards and an e-mail code. I think if they see you are coming anyway they dont bother....I hear all the time of people who go a lot never getting anything, but their aunt that went once 10 years ago gets them all the time. I could be totally wrong, but thats my theory.

I don't think so and here's why. I went in Sept. 2002, booked through Disney central reservations. I haven't been back since then and I've NEVER EVER gotten an email or postcard with code. I've been registered online with the Disney site for years, I do get email from them but NEVER have gotten codes.

I think it's just random, I really do.

Could someone tell me the exact email address that the codes come from? I hope I have not been deleting them by mistake or something!!!

Thanks

The e-mail address is

Walt Disney World Resort [disneyworld@vacation.disneyworld.com]

I don't think that's quite right either, that they go to people who haven't been there in awhile. I truly believe it's random after our experiences.

We've been to WDW 14 times, 8 of those since March 2001, and we have our next trip booked for April. Last May we brought some extended family and friends with us, including my 6yo cousin. She got a postcard in the mail with a discount rate sometime last spring before we went, I think in April. It came to my house (res. was under my name and address) and I was shocked as I had never gotten one and then a 6yo does! We couldn't use it for our May trip because it didn't apply to the room we had booked so it went unused and I threw it out (since we would not be vacationing with that cousin ever again).

Then, a few months later, my mom (who sometimes comes with us), my husband, and I all got e-mail codes good though the end of 2004. My mom's came to one of my e-mail addresses, not her own. I think it was in July. Well we didn't plan on going back till April so we didn't do anything with them (in fact my husband deleted his). Then we got cheap airfare so we decided on a last minute December trip. I thought about the e-mails we had received and dug them out. My husband's was deleted so that left us with the 2 sent to my e-mail addresses. The 1st one came up as linked to my cousin (not the 6yo, a 23yo who also came with us in May) and the CM said I could not use it. The other one I got at my other e-mail address came up under my mom's name. That CM was going to let us use that one, but there were no rooms available with that code where we wanted to stay, so we booked with the AAA rate. So both of those codes went unused also.

We went to my mom's house for Thanksgiving and my mom gave me a pile of 'junk' mail I had received there, including a postcard sent to my husband for a cheap rate at a moderate. We didn't try to use it for our December trip since we thought all codes were the same and if there were no rooms with the e-mail code then this postcard must be the same. We were probably wrong but we had been able to apply our AP rate so we didn't care, but again, the code went unused.

A couple of weeks ago (not sure of the date now), my husband got another e-mail with the code for this spring, which we used for our April reservation.

So including our trip this April, we've been to WDW 5 times since May 2004, and stayed at the GF twice, AKL, Pop, and ASMu and we'll be at AKL and CR this trip. So unless they want us to try out a moderate next time (that's what the postcard advertised, POR), I can't figure out why they sent us these codes.

Well, I have never been a guest at Disney-have spent one day at Epcot associated with a work trip WAY before we had a computer or email so our upcoming trip is our first "REAL" trip to Disney and I got an email with a code and pin. I think the ones that came out recently have been given mostly to those that have recently ordered the vacation planning trip, but not all those that ordered got one. My email read that my "vacation planning kit was on it's way". They also had information about our visit this spring and we would like to offer you a discount on the rooms or something like that.

My guess is that this current round of emails are associated with people that ordered the vacation planning kit between certain dates but also along with other criteria-maybe location, age, bringing kids, who knows. I am glad I got one and if I could, I would be happy to share!

After getting an email code today (but unable to use it because it was not within my dates..Grrr!!!), I looked it over again. The email said this:

Your Vacation Planning Kit is on its way!

And since you're traveling with a preschooler, it's probably a good idea to start planning early. After all, you want to make sure you allow enough time for you and the little one to experience all there is to do here! That way, your vacation can be as enjoyable and relaxing as possible.

1. I have a vacation booked this August (and it has been booked for months), so that argument is out the window.
2. I went last May, so that argument is out.

I think that it defintely helps if you call CRO and request a vacation planning kit. Hear me out- I ordered one online a month or so ago and we got a tape, when we needed a DVD (we don't have a VCR). So, I called CRO and told them I needed to order the DVD (because online there was no option to choose what type of media), and she put in my request.

Today I receive the email and the first line says:

Your Vacation Planning Kit is on its way!

Further in the email it gives me an offer of $74 a night for value resorts during the dates of 4/17/05 to 7/4/05 and the 15 digit pin. So call Disney and order a planning kit and it will probably give you a better chance at an email code.

The email is from the address disneyworld@vacation.disneyworld.com, and labeled from "Your Disney Travel Planner." Good Luck!

I don't think they give "email codes" or any "discount codes" to anyone living in New Jersey. I never got one in all the years I have been going there....since 1975. I never knew anyone from NJ that got one either.

We try and go every year and I am signed up for everything Disney there is, and it seems that they pick me alot for surveys, not only online but special post cards with links to surveys and in park surveys. I seem to get postcards w/pins pretty often and last year I used one. We will see what this year brings. I still think it is just an at random thing.

uneamie: I live in NJ and we got a post card discount code last year. It was the first time we had ever gotten one, but it worked out great. I booked a trip with my 2 DGDs and we got the ASmu for only $59! DH and I are planning a trip for next October - I just wish I'd get another post card or email discount!

I called and asked if there was a pin under my name and she knew right away what I was talking about because people keep calling and asking. She told me that it's done by another company randomly. That they have nothing to do with who gets a code or not.

She was almost sounded thoroughly disgusted to even check for me. This whole system of Priority Seating and these E-mail Codes sure is a lot of hassle. They need to have slot cards like Vegas does. When you go to Disney and insert your card you get points, and with those points you get emails and reduced rates. If you don't go and use your card, you get no points. At least in Vegas it's fair, plus they take "real" reservations like a restaurant should. JMHO. :)

I've ordered the old planning video and the new one for 2005 and never have received an email code.

I received postcards the last two falls after a summer trip for Nov-Dec. After our first trip in 01 I received a postcard rate for 03. I was able to use that one, but never the ones for Nov-Dec.

could someone tell me what "CRO" stands for. I need to call Disney also b/c I received a VHS and I don't have a VCR. Could someone tell me the number to call to request one.

Thanks.

CRO - Central Reservations Office 1-407-W-DISNEY
you can also order it online at the Disney website

But if you order it online, you CANNOT specify DVD or VHS- they send you a VHS automatically (at least that's what happened to me). I had to call Disney to request the DVD.

As AP holders, we get email codes quite frequently for both our AP and just general, unrelated codes, I believe because we signed up for the Disney Insider, free on Disney's website.
I question, though, why you need to receive these emails at all? If you go to mousesavers online, specifically http://www.mousesavers.com/disneyresorts.html#discountmenu, you can get codes year round that are similar, if not exact, discounts that you get from these emails. I always glance at the codes from emails (with PIN) or the Mickey Monitor that Disney sends, but have never used one because I can go on mousesavers a get the same discounts.
Other than being able to come onto the Disboards and brag to everyone that you got a discount code email  , these emails are overrated, IMO.

Those e-mail codes and postcard codes seem to usually be about the same as the AP discounts from what I've seen.

The difference is that the codes for regular discounts (non-AP) are usually a little higher.

So...if you have an AP, the e-mail rates and postcard rates are probably going to be about the same as your AP rate.

If you don't have an AP, then the e-mail & postcard rates are usually cheaper than what you can get with regular room only, non-AP rate codes.

For example....last year, we stayed at Pop Century in late May/early June. I think the AP rate was $59 per night. I was able to get $69 per night using a Disney Visa rate. I think the non-AP code rate was either $69 or $74 when it eventually came out.

If I had received an e-mail code for $59, I would have saved $10 per night. It didn't bother me much...but, I can see where people staying in better hotels (moderates, deluxes) would probably get a bigger $$$ savings by getting an e-mail code.

I guess that's why everyone is trying to get an e-mail code so much. It seems like the code gives you the AP price without having to purchase the AP.....

Just my opinion.....

I live in NJ and I have never received one ever. I did know someone who did last year and used their card info and we went down the week after Easter on this post card info everyone is talking about. Although I have not received one for this year, but I do know of people who have and they are from NJ also. I tried to use it just yesterday and was not allowed to. The person it is addressed to is the only one who is entitled to make and get the discounts. I don't know why the change all of a sudden or it was just someone new or whatever. As long as the they get the people down there who cares who uses it.

I signed up on Disney's web site to order a vacation planner about a month ago. Yesterday I received an e-mail similar to the ones described by others here on the board, offerring an $84 rate for a Value Resort from 4/16/05 - 7/4/05, and listing a 15-digit pin code.

I called the CRO and they tried to use the pin but told me it didn't work - 2 digits too long!! I asked if there was anyone else I could speak to about it, and they transferred me somewhere - maybe Guest Services? Anyway, the second person offerred me a $55/night + tax rate for May 21 - 28, or $71 + tax for a preferred location at All Star Music. We were originally planning to travel in September or December, but I snapped up the May rate for the preferred location.

This is our first trip to DisneyWorld, and my first time posting. I thought someone might find this info useful, or had a similar experience with their pin. I've been reading this board for a few days - it has been enormously helpful - thanks to all!! :flower:
