Any tolls on route from MCO to Disney?

All,

We are considering renting a car for our stay this trip for the first time (have always just done DME from the airport) because we're staying at the Swan and Dolphin (no DME). Looking at prices and the add-ons...is there any reason to add the electronic toll option that most of the companies are seemingly pushing on the rental page? I can't say I've ever really paid attention to such things while on the big bus.

Also, this could be my utter ignorance in renting cars, but is there a reason why Dollar and Thrifty are not just cheaper, but like 1/4 the price of a Hertz or Enterprise rental for a week long rental from MCO? Seems like a huge fluctuation in price between the companies - is that simply because the bigger players just rely on the corporate renters and not really playing in the "vacationing family" market? Weird.

Thanks!

You'll find the answers about tolls in this thread two days ago: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=3340520 (Just be aware the first reply below the opening post contains some misinformation.)

In short, although there are tolls between MCO and WDW, there is no reason to use electronic tolling. You just need to watch for two "change-receipts" toll booths in each direction. You do not need quarters.

Yes, car rental prices can be a mystery. Dollar and Thrifty are owned by Hertz!

While you CAN get to WDW without using a toll road, it's not worth it for 99% of the people. Depending on which way you go, There may be an unmanned toll booth on SR417 depending on where you exit. If you exit at exit 6, you will be OK and that is the best exit for WDW. On SR528, all tolls are manned.

The big disadvantage of the toll option through the rental company is having to pay the service charge, which in some cases also applies to days you don't use the toll roads.
