Any tips on a good rate with Avis?

Having used both National and Avis in the past, we have found that we have had better luck with Avis. We have the upgraded free memberships with both. Does anyone have any suggestions re codes, other memberships (I probably have them all), or websites to refer to? Thanks!

I have only ever rented from them when I needed a van 1-way ( from MCO to Port Canveral and then back) rate code USA saved $20 for 1 day.
