Specifically berber?

I googled and found instructions to put down a brown paper grocery bag and iron over it until it all comes up. DH is really scared about the soot; I have a big black spot on my carpet right now. Will it come up with the iron, too?

Thanks for any personal experiences you can share!

Hmmm... I don't know about the soot, but I did spill a large amount of wax on my carpet and used paper towels and a hot iron to clean it up. It was amazing how well that worked! It is very short pile carpet, though, which made it easier.

But I doubt that will help with the soot. You may have to call a professional cleaner for that. :confused3

Did you try WD 40? One of its offical uses is to remove Crayon's from carpet, and they are made of wax. IT does say to try it on an are where it will not show.

Vacuum up all the soot that you can first.

You can either do the paper bag-iron trick for the wax (this will take a LONG time and many bags), or buy an actual wax remover. I bought mine at Bed Bath and Beyond and it has a scraper attached to the bottle. Worked really great on red wax on a light tan carpet.

Then, after the wax is all up, I'd then try a deep-cleaning carpet cleaner. We used one on carpets that is designed for automobiles. (Stronger and it has a deeper bristle-scrubber).

Good luck!

Papertowels, newspapers, paperbags...they all work great for melted candles on carpets, slacks, shirts, any clothes. Keep the iron on medium and place the paper on the wax and watch it melt onto the paper.

The soot can be taken out probably using Dawn dishwashing detergent. Make suds with it and put the suds on the soot and pat down with papertowels...do not rub!

Good luck.
