New DVC owners (BLT) going on our first trip using our points in October for F & W. Staying at SSR, no clue what room or building (they didn't tell us). Any tips or pointers we should know? We have visited MK over 20 times so pretty comfy with the parks but nervous/excited about first time "home".:confused3

Just enjoy this beautiful property! Our first trip home was in December...and it was totally wonderful! We were in the Paddock...great views, so peaceful! I can't wait to go back!!

You'll love SSR. They will not tell you what section you are in until you check in. You can call and make a request to be put into a particular section. It's just a request, but worth making in my opinion. Start doing a little research on the different sections and what they offer and then call Member Services and they will put the request on your reservation. We have been in three different sections in our visits and my family enjoyed the Paddock.

Just so you know . . .

All sections have a bus stop that is close and handy. Some complain about the bussing, but we have NEVER had any bussing problems at SSR that could not be compared to worse problems at AKV, BCV, BWV, BLT or VWL; they are what they are.

The Springs - close to the Carriage House and High Rock Springs Pool and bar. Best for families with litle kids.

The Grandstand - next closest to the Carriage House, great pool and bar. Our favorite.

The Paddock - NEW POOL! (and bar w/ snacks)

Congress Park - closest walk to DTD. Great quiet pool.

The Carrousel - No Pool, No Bar, nice quiet area. Close to new Paddock Pool. Farthest from High Rock Springs.

Don't miss sitting in the rocking chairs along the water on the way to DTD.

There is so much more to tell. Keep reading, as I'm sure others will fill in details. SSR is really a great place. It is away from so much of the Disney hub bub.

You will enjoy SSR; after all, you are on VACATION!

If you have kids with you, make sure to check out Community Hall. Take the boat over to DTD or walk if you are close enough / want to.

We just returned from our first stay at SSR. I agree if you have children go for The Springs or Paddock area with the new pool and quick service location.

Keep in mind that allow the Springs is a great location it is the last bus stop and sometimes buses are filled by the time they get there and you may need to wait for the next bus to come.

Turf Club is a hidden gem. Not difficult to make ADR.

SSR does movies at night from the High Rocks Pool. Kids love it.

Artists Palette is a great store/quick service location.

Take the boat to DTD for dinner or a drink.

Enjoy! SSR is great! I'm jealous. I want to go again.

Thanks for all the great responses. It will be DH and I as kiddies will be in college. We loved taking the boat to DD on our last visit when we stayed at Port Orleans. We can't wait! :cloud9:

You can stay there and...

Enjoy the walking paths....
Savor the view of DTD from Congress Park or the Turf Club....
Relax with a massage and other spa services....
Sit in the hot tub and chill

BUT

You may NOT tell anyone how much you enjoyed it....How you loved that everyone else was wrong.....

SSR is <our> secret....and we don't want anyone else to know.....

SHHHHH.....

My family has stayed in Congress Park twice-it is our favorite. Just my husband and I are going in December (kids also in college) and we have requested CP again...it has a really nice Leisure Pool and we love the short walk to Downtown Disney. Have a great time!

SSR is our home resort and we've been a bunch of times in the last 6 years.

Absolutely make sure you jump on the boat that will take you downtown OR (our second favorite place) Port Orleans Riverside. There you can get a bike for two and travel around their property.

The "side" pools are awesome... for a good part of the day you might be the only person there.

Also, don't try to ride down the waterslide with a young kid... they'll yell at you. :)

SSR is our home resort and we LOVE it! We are what is politely known as "Congress Park Snobs" we have only stayed in CP and we love it! Our pool is very nice and quiet and quite a bit of fun to hang out at night. We are only a 5 minute walk to DTD and a 5 minute walk up to the Carriage House. There are many people who don't like SSR because it is big and it's quiet, but that's the main reason we do love it. We don't have shared bussing either...a thing we grew to hate when we stayed at BWV this spring. There are also dispatchers at the bus stops in the morning and they do keep things moving along.

Love Congress Park for the views but will definitely want to try the Paddocks new pool it looks great.

We also own at SSR and love it for all of these reasons. It is a nice "get away" from all the excitement of the parks. You can leave the parks and go "home". Nice and quiet. The grounds are just beautiful. It is also very nice being so close to Downtown, especially at night if you just want to take a small, quiet stroll. ENJOY!
