HI-
This is our first time driving with children. The DSs are 12,8 and 1. The two older boys will be fine with their gameboys, dvds and cds but the 1 y.o. concerns me a bit. Any suggestions for keeping a toddler happy and occupied? Im thinking books with sensory stuff, like touch and sound but I was looking for some other suggestions.

Also- wouldn't it be great to have a driving sub-board under Transportation for these questions instead of just a sticky?

Mine were actually pretty good travellers at that age...I would suggest lots of snacks that are interesting to him and best of all someone to sit next to him to keep him entertained....My nieces would always sit still and watch disney DVD's or their baby songs videos or whatever if someone would hold the dvd player for them.

Another tip that really helped mine when they were tiny travellers was to pack a picnic lunch that we could eat at roadside parks where they could run and eat at the same time....avoided sitting in a restaurant and waiting for food after sitting all day in the car seat. DH would run them all over in wild games while I packed up after lunch and they would hop back in ready to ride some more.

We drove to WDW when our youngest daughter was that age. The key for us was to keep her stomach full, and drive as many hours as possible when she was sleeping.

Here's the best tip: Drive as fast as you possibly can!!! :teeth:
If your 1yo is walking, make sure you do stops so he/she can run those legs. McDonald's Playlands are good for this.

have taken a one year old and seven month old. WE bought a tv that went into a bag and played many vhs movies. it was worth its money a thousand times over. we also did the stretch thing, we leave in the middle of the night so we can get time driving while sleeping( and of course our kids did not go back to sleep untill 6 am, but all worked out great) it is when they are older it is harder to keep them busy( the three and four year old stage) good luck.
