I was willing to sit through a timeshare presentation to get a better hotel rate, but it seems U.S. citizenship is a requirement. Does anyone know if there are timeshare deals open to Canadians? Seems like there should be considering how many of us are in Florida every year.

We've sat through them down there. It wasn't for better hotel rates, but I don't see what difference it makes unless they've changed the rules recently.

We did the Hilton Timeshare presentation last March and were never asked our citizenship. Walked away with $100 US to boot!

We've done a couple and they never asked our citizenship..... only how much our yearly income was.:)

This is the number for the Tempus Resorts. They own Palm Resorts and all the Doubletree Hotels among others. Their number is 1-888-683-6787. They have a deal out where you can buy 5 days / 4 nights in Orlando and 3 days / 2 nights in Daytona. Have to use the Orlando portion first. Costs $259.00 US. This includes 2 passes to Pleasure Island, a family pass for 7 to Water Mania, the 4 night Orlando, 2 night Daytona and you have to take a 90 minute timeshare tour. Try it.

We took the timeshare tour back in Sept. We got a call from them about three weeks ago asking us to come back, thus the deal for the 4night Orlando, 2 night Daytona package. If they ask to see a credit card, just cover the numbers up, they only want to see that you own one.

Thanks, Debbie.
Seems like a great deal! Was the timeshare tour high-pressure? How were the accommodations? Much appreciated.

Hi
We did this TS presentation in December 2001. We made it clear right from the beginning that we would not be buying a TS. It helped knowing that the value of our $$ was at an all time low. We were not pressured at all by the sales rep for The Palms. At the end of the presentation, tempus resort staff stepped in along with a manager to try to convince us to buy. It was no big deal and not overly pressured. You just need to be honest and stick to your guns with the "NO". You will see other families there buying the TS, but that did not make us waver in the least. In fact, it had the opposite affect on me. People cheering and being congratulated in front of a whole room of perspective TS buyers, just proved to me the tactics that are used to make you buy a TS. I am not sure about other people but my husband and I would never purchase something of that much value without being able to go home and discuss it first and do some research. Anyway, The Palms is a beautiful facility, it was very interesting doing this timeshare. (my first one) The presentation took under 2 hours and you got either lunch or breakfast depending on what time you went.

Cost $239.00 US

5 nights accomodations in Orlando ( we traded our Daytona 2 night stay for and additional night in Orlando). We chose the Comfort Suites on Turkey Lake Road. The pool was awesome very very warm but the rooms where in need of repairs.

2 tickets to Pleasure Island (which we didn't find time to use)

$20.00 certificate for Planet Hollywood plus VIP status (had a great meal...VIP got us in without waiting)

A coupon book with savings (no big deal)

All in all I believe it was a decent deal, but would chose to do a TS next time where you could stay right on the premises. We moved after our 5 nights at the Comfort Suites to LBV Summerfield Suites for 6 nights and had an awesome time. Good Luck

Posted below also...

My wife refuses to do Timeshare presentations, however use Ebay or Yahoo auctions.... I have a bid in at Skyauction that I'm keeping my fingers crossed on.

If looking for hotels, try using Expedia, Travelocity.... Last minute may be the best bet.

Make a reservation and be ready to cancel for something better.....
