I got this from a friend of a friend - any ideas?

Bertha's cat (Ronnie) has hair loss above the tail in 2 patches. She said he can't reach back there so there is no extra scratching/gnawing. Any advice would be appreciated. Oh, he's an outdoor cat.
Thanks!

Maybe it's ringworm. This will cause fur loss. Do a search on "ringworm cats" to find more information.

I have no idea what this could be. Possibly an allergy or bug bites maybe

Thanks for your help - I've forwarded it. I really hope she takes him to the vet's!

Hey Carol.

I wish DocRafiki had seen this post; she's incredibly helpful with advice regarding pets.

Maybe a bump or two will get the attention of some other veterinarians too.:)

I have no idea, just PD for Ronnie and hope they find out what is wrong and he gets all better.:D

Morning Jeannie! Thanks Mary Jo - I'll post if I find out how he is!

About 95% of the time, it's fleas. The cat should be on Revolution every month if it's an outdoor cat. Needless to say, it should also be spayed or neutered, vaccinated for your basic shots plus FeLV, and tested annually for FeLV & FIV.

Doc and I were thinking alike
I was going to say fleas
I've seen outdoor cats lose lots of hair from fleas
get some medicine for them right away and keeping doing it every month

Thanks for the replies - Bertha now thinks it might be an allergy to Iams. As I don't know this...

Thanks again!
