Any thoughts on tipping at Paolo

On our last cruise we were told that the $5 per head service charge was for the wait staff, because they don't get any of the tip that is given to the regular wait staff that serves us the rest of the trip.
As we were getting up to leave our waitress discreetly said to us that, without prompting, that they don't get any of the $5 per head svc charge, and that it is customery to leave an additional gratuity. Of course we left a nice tip for her, but I was wondering if anyone else had any experience with this tipping situation at Paolo and what the real story is on the service charge.:Pinkbounc

We also left a separate (and very nice) tip for our server at Palo's (he brought us a lot of extra "off the menu" items and really spent a lot of time with us). All of the shipboard info specifically says the $5 does go to the Palo server. What our server "discretely" explained is that they don't get a cut of the tip you leave for your regular servers.

We plan on doing the Palo brunch. What is an appropriate tip and do we leave it i cash or do we charge it to our KTTW card?

Thanks,

Tammy

You can charge the tip to your KTTW card. As far as a tip, try to estimate what you would pay for the brunch/dinner at a fancy restaurant and tip accordingly. We were told that the wait staff does not get a salary-only room and board- so they depend on tips.

I also agree that additional tipping at Palo is warranted. The food is exceptional and the service is excellent. We tipped both our servers for brunch and dinner additional in cash. We even got thank you notes delivered to our staterooms from both of them thanking us for our generoisty.
