Any tattoo artists on the Dis???

What's the question? DH's friend (and tattoo artist) is... well, a tattoo artist.

I've watched many a tattoo be made. Perhaps I could help?

Maybe you can help...my tattoo artist is on vacation right now so I can't call him for advice. I know you aren't supposed to drink alcohol before getting work done because of the blood thinning, but I was wondering if there was any adverse reaction to taking a muscle relaxer prior to. See, I was injured a few months ago and messed up my shoulder pretty good, well I went to have some more work done on my back piece 2 weeks ago, and from sitting in the best position we could determine, lol, I was in so much pain that I had to stop after 2.5 hours when I was planning on doing a 4 hour session. I have another session scheduled soon and I don't want the same thing to happen then. I have a prescription for pain killers and muscle relaxers, but I generally don't take them so I really don't know how they would affect the tattooing. YKWIM? So, after all that- if you could get some advice from your Dhs friend for me, I'd appreciate it. :goodvibes Thanks

I'll try calling his shop and see if he is working now... give me a few. I'd ask DH to call him, but he's painting! :scared1: I'll BRB!

My tattoo artist owns her own shop and is also a RN. Her advice (and requirement) is no alcohol at least 12 hours before tatooing and no pain killers/relaxers at least 24 hours before, although Advil/Ibruprofen should not be an issue, she still discourages it, prescription level pain killers/relaxers are even more discouraged/prohibited.

What is the prescription name, that may also help make a clear determination.

He wouldn't recommend taking the painkillers, and the muscle relaxers would be up to you, but they could make you feel worse. :confused3 He said you should wait until you feel better and get it done then.

It's just Flexeril and Vicodin. I generally only take the Flexeril if I'm in a lot of pain and then after I take it I go to sleep. I've never taken it and "done" anything. I don't take the Vicodin cuz it makes me sick. I was just thinking I could take the Flexril but I didn't want to until I knew if it would be safe to, and I also didn't want to sound/look like a complete idiot with my tattoo artist! lol so I figured someone here would know. :cutie: Thanks

Thanks for asking him for me! Like I said in my post above, I've never taken it and done anything just slept so I don't know how I would feel lol! Unfortunately I've injured it pretty good, it's gonna take a while to feel better and I've been working on this piece for so long as it is, I don't want to wait, I waited for a few months after my accident, I'll just endure the pain I guess. :confused3

i'm usually down for the count for the day if i take flexeril. it usually just knocks me right out, and even the next day i feel kind of out of it a little bit. i don't recommend doing ANYTHING while you've taken one.
