Any take on MNSSHP and food allergies?

Just wondering if anyone who has food allergies has an experience to share regarding the Trick-Or-Treating fun!

I'm going to email the Special Diets team and ask if they have any info on the candy, but I'm also looking for anecdotal perspectives on the experience!

My 2 boys have celiac's and are gluten free-at Halloween we have a standing deal that they can trade anything they can't eat for stuff we have that's safe (they always get so much it's never an issue! :) ) and we'll have that going in to this too!

I'm just wondering if the brands of candy are well known? Are they items in the original wrappers that can be looked up online if they're unfamiliar to us? Is there anything that's "prepared" that I should be aware of?

(like, I read in another thread about the Werthers Caramel Apple candy, at first I read it to be Caramel Apples and thought I need to find out if the caramel is g/f and how they prepare the apples! LOL)

TIA! :)

My kids can't have gluten, and we were just there last week...most of the candy they got was fine (and, yes, mostly common brands that we could look up easily). Off the top of my head, the stuff they got and couldn't eat included twix, nestle crunch, milky ways, three musketeers, and kit Kat....but they still had tons they could eat (my kids aren't celiac, just have sensitivities to gluten, so we're not super cautious about stuff like shared equipment--so ymmv). They came up with the idea to leave what they couldn't eat for our mousekeeper and got really excited about that. I have no idea if she actually wanted it or not, of course!

What sweet kids! :)

Thanks so much for the response! I was hoping it would be your general favorite-brands! :) (Mommy is not celiac, and I'm willing to make the hard sacrifice of consuming their rejects! LOL)

Thanks so much for the response!!!

DS is anaphylactic to eggs, nuts, soy and dairy, so unless it's dum-dums or smarties, he isn't getting it. We do the whole switcheroo for safe candy, too. DS loves trick-or-treating and never bats an eye when we trade the LOADS of candy for a few smarties. (He's only 3 though:rotfl:.)

When we went to MNSSHP in 2009, we got typical name brand candy that was easy to look up. All individually wrapped. We had THE BEST TIME at MNSSHP!!! It was worth every penny!!!

If you go to Guest Relations at City Hall and tell them about food allergies they have special stocks of candy backstage that would be safe and they will provide them in a T&T bag.

I know this wasn't your question, but I just wanted to mention in case it would help anyone that City Hall has sugar-free candy upon request, as well. Unfortunately, my daughter (who has type 1 diabetes) was only offered one kind--hard candy--which isn't as fun as getting a variety, but I do think it's thoughtful that they at least offer some kind of treat for those who can't or don't eat sugar.

There was also one station in Tomorrowland that had raisins as an alternative to candy the night we were there (they also had candy there).

Does anyone know what is in the allergy bags they give you? We have done MNSSHP a few times when my son was younger, ha has Peanut/Tree Nut allergy. I switched the bags out myself with a bag I made before leaving to Disney. Curious as what they give you if I went to guest relations instead.
