My son gets car sick once in awhile. I want to bring something on the ship just in case. Any suggestions?

Also, we are on Deck 6, Cat 11 in the middle of the ship. Anyone know how the motion of the boat is there?

I use sea bands. they are wrist bands that have a pressure point on your wrist. check the drug stores. I get motion sickness and use these all the time when travelling, they work great.

I used bonine (not sure on the spelling) on my last cruise and it worked great.

My DD did not like the seabands (they didn't match what she was wearing!), but we tried an herbal remedy. We got ginger capsules from the local pharmacy and she took one a day starting a couple of days prior (to make sure they didn't upset her stomach) and then one each morning of the cruise. She actually only took them like twice and then she was used to the motion. Worked for my mom too! Happy cruising!

Sea Bands...thats something I will not go on a cruise without.....We LOVE them.

After years of suffering the effects of dramamine, and later bonine - my doctor's wife told me to try the sea bands. They worked great and no side effects.

They do feel TIGHT on the wrists but it's a small price to pay in lieu of being ill.

Do you put sea bands on before you board or as soon as you feel the quesy, boat rocking feeling. I don't want to give my kids meds unless they are really needed. This sounds like a great alternative. What department do they sell them at?

I put mine on when I board the airplane then take them off when I land. On the ship, I put them on as we set sail and just leave them on til we dock.

I bought mine at Walgreens (drug store) for about $10.00 - but they last forever.

I don't care for the "kids and medication" combination either - even for us 40-something kids!

My wife and I has used the over the counter drug called Bonine. It makes you a little sleepy, but prevented me from getting sea sick during some very rough water conditions.

The first cruise I use dramamine(the non-drowsy formula) and nearly fell asleep at the table! I could not function.....had to cancel the babysitter and night out for my pillow!:(
Last cruise I took ginger pills before and during the cruise and was fine! We had very high seas also! I also bring ginger snaps to snack on in our room. This is what I'll be doing for our 2/1 cruise! Hope it works as well as last time.

Are the ginger pills safe to give to kids? My DS (12) is prone to motion sickness but I'd rather not have him sleep through the whole cruise...

Our pediatrician recommended the antihistamine 'Benadryl' for our grands before flying and boarding the ship. It really helped their ears on the flight and their tummies on the nights the ship was rocking.

I believe ginger is OK for kids but I would double check with your Dr. I haven't given it to my kids because they can't swallow pills yet, but they eat the ginger snaps a lot. My daughter gets car sick very easily, but has never gotten sea sick. Maybe it's luck maybe it's the cookies?!?!
Good Luck-
Sue
PS - Benedryl will make them sleepy!

We bought a refillable soda mug and my two boys sipped ginger-ale. We had high seas (15-10ft swells) for 5 days but they never felt the least bit queasy. Simple, but it seemed to work.

(the first day we tried childrens dramamine - but it made them tired and cranky)

Two Words:

SEA BANDS

P.S. I didn't put them on until after we left port and they worked great. The kids didn't need anything, but any of the meds I had a concern of either drowsiness or if I wanted a glass of wine w/ dinner.

We also went with the ginger pills. We started taking them a few days before we sailed. DD8 can't swallow pills so we had her eat ginger snaps and drinks ginger ale. She had no problem.
