Any suggestions? New to DDR

I am hoping Disney will offer free dining this fall. At this time I have room reservations only. We have a party of eight so I am worried that by the time they offer free dining (if they do) I willl have a hard time getting table service reservations. Anyone have any suggestions or advice?

you can make reservations for 180 days out, just like anyone else.(unless you have a package booked, in which case you can make reservations for 180 days , plus 10 (the lenagth of a room reservaton)
when (and if) they come out with "free" dining, just call and ask if you can change your room ony reservation to a free dining reservation. (note, there are seperate rooms set aside for different promotions, so having a "room only " reservation does NOT guarantee you a spot for the "free" dining promotion, at that particular resort.)
the reason I have the word "free" in quotes, is because the only way you get the DDP (disney dining plan) for free is if you pay rack rate for your room.
and they set aside X amount of rooms at each resort for these promotions. so, contrary to poplular belief, you could have a "room only" reservaton for a resort, say, French Quarter, and they might not have any rooms available for the free dining promotion for the same time period.
but, as per your question, you can make reservations 180 days out.

Actually you can do the 180+10 even if you have just a room only reservation. They couldn't care less if it's a pkg or room only.

ok, I can't beleive I don't know this earlhy.. if you rent DVC points from someone, how do you go about making ADRS? how soon can you do it?

Just wanted to give you another fyi...in order to get free dining (if it is offered) you will need to convert your room only to a package and add tickets as well as the Dining Plan. To do that, they will need to cancel your room only, refund you any money you have on that reservation, and you will need to put down a new $200 deposit for the package.

You need the reservation # to make the 180+10 ADRs, or if you are under 180 days just make them like normal.
