I want to take DH on a surprise trip for his 25th this July. I was thinking Vegas or a cruise. We've never experienced either. I really need some suggestions. I really like nice hotels - can't you get pretty good rates in Vegas? I really want to keep this relatively inexpensive, so I think a Disney cruise is out. Any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks!

You should be able to get some great deals on either cruises or Vegas, depending on what you're looking for and your availability time-wise. Browse around a site like travelocity or orbitz and look for cruise deals.

Vegas shouldn't be too expensive in July, mostly because it's like 110 degrees there that time of the year. That does, however, limit what activities you'll want to do on the trip (e.g. I would think hiking Red Rock Canyon's probably not a good idea). In Vegas, it's always cheaper to go Sunday through Thursday -- Friday and Saturday nights are always much more expensive. But you should be able to get a good room on the Strip that time of the year for under $100 a night during the week, and $150-$200 for a weekend night.

I have yet to do a cruise, but would LOVE to someday soon! I think you can get fairly good rates, esp late minute deals.

As far as Vegas, we honeymooned there the first week in August and really didn't mind the weather at all. I think I've said before on this board that I would return to Vegas in the summer in a heartbeat, but will never EVER do WDW in the summer again. Totally two different heats. I can take the dry heat, and stayed inside almost all the time. Can't handle Florida heat that long...

I think you can get good deals in Vegas as well. We stayed at the Mandalay Bay (blech!) and Paris... THe Paris was stunningly gorgeous, had a great location on the strip, and we got great rates! $69 a night!

Good luck planning the trip! How fun!

Vegas is AWESOME!! I wanna go so, so bad :) There is always so much to do and see, and it can be fairly inexpensive. Sam's Town is a nice hotel off of the Strip, and they have a birthday rate where it's like $20 off each night of the month of your birthday. :teeth:

Thanks for all the responses. I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with Vegas. I know DH would prefer that and since it's his birthday surprise I want him to love it.

Any other hotel suggestions? I love nice hotels and jacuzzi tubs in the bathroom.

I live in Vegas, so I haven't stayed in too many of the hotels. But DH and I stayed at the Mandalay Bay once (his office christmas party was held there and they got everyone a room) and our room was very nice. The Venetian and the Paris are supposed to have nice rooms too. I saw them on Great Hotels. I've not been in the rooms but I've been to both casinos and they are really pretty, especially the Venetian. If you are looking for inexpensive rooms, try Excalibur, Circus Circus, places like that. They aren't all that nice room-wise, but they are okay.

Try booking a package on Orbitz.com or one of those sites and you can usually get good deals.

We were just out on the strip last night (we never go to the strip, but our kids our out of town for spring break wtih the grandparents). We went to the new Margaritaville cafe that just opened this past January. VERY COOL. It's at the Flamingo and you must check it out. We actually have a lot of themed restaurants, like Rainforest Cafe, ESPN Zone, Nascar Cafe, Harley Davidson Cafe, etc. All are fun to eat in.

Hope you have a great time.

If you want a nice room with a jacuzzi in it try the Venetian. We stayed there a few years ago (we were up graded to a high roller suite with 2 jacuzzi's, a jet shower/steam room and our own sauna!) It is an all suite hotel which we thought was wonderful. If you want suggestions of things to do a must is a helicopter flight to the Grand Canyon.
