We are going to WDW for Thanksgiving later this year and I was wondering if those of you who have been there on this day, where did you eat on Thanksgiving? I'm not necessarily looking for a traditional turkey dinner, but would like to have a nice dinner for myself, DH and our 2 young kids (8 & 5 at time of travel). Thanks for any guidance you may have!

I have never been to WDW on Thanksgiving day... but regardless of what you do for Dining... you could always have a Turkey Leg at MK if you desire Turkey. :)
Enjoy your planning.

We actually checked in on Thanksgiving Day a few years back and ate at Whispering Canyon Cafe since we were staying at the VWL. While it was crowded, we got table in less than a half hours without an ADR. Dinner was a traditional all you could eat turkey dinner with pumpkin pie ala mode for dessert. We enjoyed it and would do it again. Have a great time.

We have enjoyed Cape May Cafe at the Beach Club several time for Thanksgiving dinner, it's an all you can buffet so it has something for everyone as well as the traditional items.
Whatever you decide make your reservation early all the onsite restaurants fill up fast.

We have been several times over Thanksgiving. One year we cooked dinner in our BWV villa and another year we cooked in our OKW villa, actually ordering a turducken to be delivered there.

We have also eating T'day dinner at Cape May buffet, and one year over at the Dolphin Hotel which was also excellent.

The nice thing about having the DVC villa is that we do have a full kitchen to utilize for the holiday..

We have been 4 times over Thanksgiving and we have eaten at Whispering Canyon (very loud and crowded), Chef Mickey's (kinda got stuck in the back area that you go up a step or two to get to, but close to the buffet)food was okay. We waited a lot for things to be replenished and the person carving the meats was NOT HAPPY LOL. We were at CSR for one trip and ate in the Pepper Market (not too bad) and for the life of me I can't remember where we ate at the first time we stayed over Thanksgiving. IF it were me...I would try Cape May's if you want a character type meal. We used to like to eat at Trails End. It is kinda off the beaten path and the buffet is cheaper, but the last few times we ate there...it was not as good. Not sure how Thanksgiving is there. We like to take the boat over from near the monorails. It is kinda a nice little place to get away from the hustle and bustle. Oh I remember where we ate ....we ate at Planet Hollywood in 2007. We liked it. They even had a traditional Thanksgiving meal that I got and everyone else got what they wanted. I don't want to be in the parks on Thanksgiving so that is why we have never tried a restaurant in the parks. Good luck....book as soon as you can though.

Our family of 13 ate Thanksgiving lunch this past year at Liberty Tree Tavern. First time in 30 years we have ever eaten here. We got one of the first reservations available (11:15am) so it wasn't too crowded yet and the Magic Kingdom was also not too crowded that early. We had five children under nine and they loved it, as did the adults. We have done Chef Mickeys, Cinderella Castle, Park Fair (GF), previous Thanksgivings and LTT was better than all of them to us! Food was very good, not fancy--traditional thanksgiving food served family style and more than enough! Atmosphere was great for Thanksgiving and service was awesome! No characters at lunch, which for us was great because they can distract kids at mealtime. Think you would like it.

We did 50's PT didn't like it. Wait was about an hout w/ressie. Food got an eh.....Last time we do T-day meal in a park!

We also did 1900 PF expensive and ehhhh.....good fun w/ characters that was about it.

So we are also looking for suggestions.....:goodvibes

For 2008 we had dinner in our villa at SSR.

For 2009, we had a fantastic meal at Ohana. It was a traditional Thanksgiving meal served family style. The food was excellent and if we go back for Thanksgiving again, that's where we would eat again. There were no characters for this meal.

This past Thanksgiving was our first at WDW. We had dinner at Boma. It was excellent. They had traditional offerings such as turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, sweet potatoes, gravy and green beans, in addition to most of their usual selections. I also recall carved ham. There was a to-die-for butternut squash soup. There was also a pumpkin dessert among the other goodies. Everything tasted hot and fresh and the dishes were replenished constantly.

We have never been at the Thanksgiving holiday time, but if we were there and planning to be in MK on Thanksgiving, we would definitely have ressies for LTT.

What was for dessert?
Did they have bread pudding?
This could be a deal breaker......

This sounds interesting...my DH & DS have eaten there previously and enjoyed it. I will mention it to DH and see what he says. Thanks for your input!:thumbsup2

Thank you all so much for your suggestions. It sounds like there are a lot of good choices out there. I will definitely take your advice and book early!!:goodvibes
