My godson is making his Confirmation next month and I am his sponsor. I would like to get his something special - meaningful and useful. any suggestions?

Precious Moments "Onward Christian Soldierss" figurine and a savings bond always work!

xbox 360. All boys find utility in those.

How old is he? I wouldn't get a boy a Precious Moments anything though, sorry. What religion is he?

For my son's confirmation the headmaster of his school (who happens to be a priest) gave my son a beautiful personally inscribed leather bound copy of the New Testament in Latin (my son attended a Latin school). Although not a "cool" teenaged gift it is something that will remind him of his "confirmation" for his whole life. His girlfriend onthe other hand gave him expensive Oakley sunglasses, presumably so he could "now see the light". Both gifts were pretty cool. Of course the middle ground, cash, is always welcome.

For my confirmation (even though I didn't really want to go, but thats another story), my parents got me a silver anklet and my godmother/sponser got me a bracelet. You could get him a chain with a cross on it or even a nice watch or something like that.

My DS will also be confirmed this spring (Catholic) and I'm not sure what to get him. I think the watch idea is a great one - you could buy a nice one and have it engraved. Another thought I had is a tie tack - maybe engraved with his initials, but not all boys wear ties. Not sure about the bible as a gift - I know my DS wouldn't be too excited at the time, but it's something he could keep forever.

I was the sponsor for my best friend's daughter a few years ago and bought her a beautiful cross. Girls are so much easier to buy for - jewelry always works! BTW I agree about the Precious Moments figure not being appropriate for a teen boy.....

We have started getting kids nice crosses for their sacraments. By a nice cross, I don't mean one that's sort of "babyish", with little lambs or something. I mean one that would be something they could take with them to their own home when they are an adult.

When our godson was Baptized, we got him a beautiful pewter Celtic cross (they are Irish).

Another good idea is to get them a statue and info about the saints name they are taking for Confirmation. My godmother did that for me when I was Confirmed...I took the name Theresa, so she got me a St.Theresa statue, medal and a book about her life.

Thanks for all the great idea - I wil have to ask my sister in law what name he is taking.

I also saw that C.S. Lewis (Narnia) writes inspirational books - may look into that as well.

When my DS was in 10th grade he was confirmed. The gifts that he got that he still has are a really nice pair of rosarybeads, they still hang on his bedpost. A really nice cross necklace, he wears it once in a while. And believe it or not he liked the cash the best!

I would probably go with the cash, and then have someone take a picture of the two of you and give it to him afterwards in a frame for a memory, with something nice written on it.
