I've looked at TripAdvisor, but honestly every hotel gets mixed reviews. There are 6 of us going (2 rooms) 3 adults, 2 teenagers (17-18), and a 6 year old. If you have been to any of these resorts can you give me an honest review. We are looking for somewhere nice, but not expecting 5 star. We have never been out of the US, but the prices I found are cheaper than what it was going to cost for us to go to Myrtle Beach. Thanks for your help!

IFA Villas Bavaro Resort
Riu Bambu
Riu Naiboa
Gran Bahia Principe La Romana
Caribe Club Princess Beach

Anyone? I think we have it narrowed down to:
IFA Villas Bavaro Resort

My cousin is going ot Bavaro end of this month. I know many people who have not had luck with the Riu Resorts. So I guess my choice would be the Bavaro

I am staying at Majestic Elegance this August. Had many friends go there and were very pleased
Hope this helps]

I've only done club med in Punta Cana. We liked it but didn't love it and we've done about 15 club med vacations. Beaches were so-so there.

I'm staying at the Ocean Blue in August. My friends said they loved it.

My husband and I travel to the Caribbean at least once a year- not a cruise, but an on island trip.

I've been to St Thomas, St Martin, Martinique, Barbados, Cozumel, St Lucia, Tulum, Grand Cayman, Aruba, and Bonaire. And DR.

DR is at the very bottom of my list.

I stayed at one of the Barcelo Bavaro resorts. The beach was beautiful, didn't care for the food ( many of the meats are unrecognizable ) the staff or the room...( I paid an upcharge for a Beach front deluxe and they oversold putting me in a room that overlooked the trash bins and maids dumping mop water. )

We had to fight for 2 days to get moved to the room we paid for.

I remember extremely pushy beach vendors, brushing my teeth with bottled water and machine gun guards at the airport.

No thanks. We're going to Grand Cayman ( again ) for 10 days this year, St Kitts next...but DR. Never again.

FWIW, I stayed at Bahia Principe Tulum several years ago ( I think it's Dreams Tulum now ) and that property was nice.

I’ve been to Punta Cana but not the resorts you’ve mentioned. We stayed at the Majestic Elegance, I highly recommend it. The food, the beach, the rooms, everything was great.

I’m sure you’ll enjoy Punta Cana from the time you arrive at the airport (designed like a tikki hut) to the time you leave, it’s a gorgeous spot. :cloud9:

Been to Punta Cana twice, but didn't stay at any of the resorts you listed. We stayed at Majestic Elegance and Dreams. Would definitely go back to Majestic Elegance again...you get what you pay for... Dreams was ok...definitely not Majestic Elegance! lol Have fun!

I would recommend staying in Punta Cana when traveling to the DR over any of the other areas like La Romana.
Of those listed, I would go with Riu Naiboa. RIU recently dumped a ton of money in to renovating that particular property. As a PP poster mentioned I wouldn't expect too much out of the AI food in the DR. Just do your research and set your expectations accordingly.

We've only been to Punta Cana -- the Barcelo Punta Cana. Nice resort with things for the kids to do, BUT stay in the deluxe (renovated) rooms. Big difference in satisfaction for us vs. some of the other people.

I've been twice to the Bahia Principe Bavaro in Punta Cana. It is a beautiful resort, and I'd highly recommend it. My in laws go every year, because they love it there so much. We had two fantastic vacations there as well.

Thanks everyone. We researched both resorts alot and finally I think we have decided on IFA Villas Bavaro Resort. We realize it will be completely different than vacationing in the US, but we were looking for something different. My daughter is graduating this month and my son next year, so I'm expecting my time vacationing with them is limited. We really wanted to do something they wouldn't forget anytime soon and the added bonus is they can't be glued to their phones or computers while there :thumbsup2
