Any Restaurant that SURPRISED you....

Il Mulino this past June was a big disappointment. Every dish was off and service as well. This was a bummer bc this is our family favorite and a must do every trip.
That really is too bad. We dined there in April and had a really good meal, as usual.
It really seems many of the restaurants have become hit or miss and they shouldn't be.

Sounds like you hit them on a bad night. Your experience was completely different from ours. Hope it doesn't become a hit or miss location.
From what I have heard, it has been hit or miss since they reopened.

Boathouse was a big surprise. Excellent food and service.
And Nomad Lounge was the hit of our trip.

I was absolutely shocked to see this post because I had an identical experience at Jiko 8/4. My filet was borderline bad, the Mac and cheese was dry and weirdly crunchy noodles, and bleh cauliflower. I literally felt like I had thrown $110 in the garbage since we got two.

Sounds like I am glad we didn't do the filet, mac n cheese or cauliflower.
We did the wild boar tenderloin and scallops for appetizers, the lamb and short ribs for entrée and they were wonderful.

We ate at Jiko for the first time a few nights ago and it is not worthy of being called a signature restaurant. We got the filet which I would rate around the 10th best on property behind some single credit dining locations. The cauliflower had no taste and the Mac and Cheese that is supposed to be life changing was on the lower end of counter service Mac and Cheese and I can say that because my daughter has had most of them over the last two weeks.

On the other hand, we had Coral Reef and it was very good for the second year in a row. It has moved to our must do list. Not up there with WBG which is still the most consistent restaurant on property but it is a great option. The salmon was great both years at Coral Reef.

Completely agree with Jiko, I don’t think I have ever been more disappointed in a dining experience ever. The cauliflower being flavorless is an an understatement and the mac and cheese tasted like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for days. The steak, at least when I had it, was poorly cooked and tasted like a bad Red Robin steak.

I could go on, but y’all probably get the point. I get mad thinking about it.

We have dined there multiple times and never had a bad meal. We were there in April and our meal was wonderful. glad we didn't pick you choices as it sounds terrible. Sadly, you didn't pick ours, as our meal meal was terrific.

have only tried a few appetizers there. LOVE the wine menus. Nothing comes close to their wine by the glass.
The appetizers have been very good. The wine flights - AMAZING!!! When they had the Champagne or the CdP flights, they were incredible. Still memorable.

What did you get if I may ask?

Sci Fi diner was a very pleasant surprise. I booked it because I thought it would be something different & fun for the kids. The food was just average diner food but the restaurant itself was surprisingly quiet, serene even. It was a nice break from the busy park, service was great.
Agreed! First time we actually got walk in reservations (this was 2012 so yeah long before the current chaos lol….I’m still sour the Buffalo chicken potato skins aren’t on the menu anymore after that night). We went again last September and it was very good! Though I think we would prefer to do it for lunch and not dinner

....mine too....we've eaten there three different times, and every single time was awesome. I should mention that my DH has Celiac, so the chef did come to our table every single time. He even prepared something that wasn't on the menu at the time, specifically for him....

At Disney? The food today is light years better than it was 20 years ago. Back then it was all greasy burgers and fries.
Actually, 20 years ago was the tail end of the best years of WDW dining. The Michael Eisner years were when Disney dining shined.

Having dined at the nicer restaurants now and 20 years ago, I think, at least pre-covid, the food and food options were much better now.
