Any Rejections?

Congratulations to all of you who've been accepted in the WDW College Program! My son (age 19) has applied for Spring Advantage 2006 - had his interview on 11/9 and is now on pins and needles waiting to hear (so am I, for his sake!)

My question is this: I know the recruiters and the campus reps say that Disney definitely does NOT accept all applicants - but does anyone know someone who didn't make it? If so, do you know why? They seem to ask so little about experience or grades - and no personal references required. Do they decide solely based on how the applicant sounds over the phone? My son would accept any role they offered him, so if he's turned down it wouldn't be based on the positions available. And it's especially frustrating not to know the average acceptance rates, either.

Waiting is hard on the whole family, isn't it??!!

When I was at the presentation, the woman that was giving the presentation learned everyones names faster than I ever could. My theory is that the presentation not only is it an informative step in applying, but also an unknowing audition. That may be the first step to weed some people out. That who is presenting will take more interest in those that are dressed nicely ( no i dont mean tie and jacket ) and are active in the presentation. Thats my thought on that.

Are for the phone interview, I felt as though the question were very Psychological. Not so much as reaching into your soul on the question, but just how you anwer it. They could as you why you think books are bound on the left versus the right. Doesnt have a thing to do with Disney but if you answer it with meaning and a sure tone then that is going to show you are a confident person.

I believe that the answers to the questions as well as how you answered them tossed in with a little of how you acted during the presentation determine if you get in or not. With that being said, nobody here that has applied to the College Program and not been extended an offer. I may be wrong, and this board hasnt been around all that long. Tell your son not worry, it doesnt make the day go by faster or the mail carrier either. My best advice is to just sit back take a breath, wish upon a star :wizard: and just relish the fact that he may being working in a place where everynight, you close your shift with fireworks.
I like that a lot better than showing people how to use a library. :)

PM if you have any question or want to talk.

EDIT
I didnt even see that this was your first post! Welcome to the DIS boards and to the college board! :wave2:

I don't know anyone who hasn't made it. My DS was a CP last year and my DD just got accepted for the Spring Advantage program. She leaves Jan. 24th. I can say that yes, it is hard on the whole family waiting on an answer. They both tried to convince us and everyone else they didn't make it. Both of mine said they would accept any position offered them. My DS got operations and my DD got fast food service. I will hopefully be spending alot of time at DisneyWorld. Try not to worry, I am sure your DS made it in. If you want to talk parent to parent PM me.
Welcome to the boards.

A girl I lived next to didnt get accepted. Her grades were too low. I think you have to have a 2.0. I felt real bad for her because I got accepted and she didnt.

Thanks for the input everyone! My son felt much better after he read your messages. His GPA is OK, and he's in "good standing" at his community college (even though he's part-time), so hopefully he'll be OK on that score. We'll keep our fingers crossed and let you know how it goes!

Oh, I know just how you feel! My DD had her phone interview on 11/04, and no word yet. Although I've told her to not count on acceptance for sure, and she hasn't, it's still very hard for her to not say things like, "While I'm in Florida, yada yada yada." She wants this so badly, and I want it for her just as much. This is day 14!! How long can it take?? :confused3

Do they do a background check on everyone? I wonder what that involves?

Congrats to Jana's daughter! I saw on another thread that she got her letter yesterday. I just hope my son hears before the Thanksgiving holiday, but we won't hold our breath. (I feel so bad for poor Walker, who's been waiting 3 weeks now - but I'm sure the news will be good eventually!)

Dunno... it says we get finger printed and such on the first day. They put those into the florida database as well as the FBI. Pretty heavy duty.

I just wanted to thank everyone again for all the support y'all(I'm a true southerner) have given me. The cool thing is God has eased my nerves and given me a peace about everything; I know that if I don't get it, it's not in his perfect will. He's got something better out there for me other than disney if this doesn't work out. What blows my mind is it has to be amazing if it's better than disney... Thanks again for all the support! ~Lindsay ::MickeyMo

I got rejected I still havent gotten my rejection letter yet but I know for a fact I did. I was so nervous during the phone interview and I ruined it completely. I really wanted to go. :guilty:

Until you get the letter you don't know for sure. But if you did, don't give up. Keep at it. I know you will get in next time. :grouphug:

You wont know until the mail comes. Dont just throw the towel in.

People are definately not accepted into the program. I can't go into details, as I am a campus rep, but I know for a fact that it does happen.

Now, if you are on here reading this, that is already one step ahead of many people. You are doing research, so obviously it's something you really want to do. The recruiters, and the interviewers will see/hear this during your interview, so that is one leg up on a lot of people!

Yes, don't give up! Of the 25 who applied at my DDs school, 15 got in, so that's 60%. Pretty good average, actually!
